  1. Thank you very much! 🙂 Could you please confirm which of these features are included or not before I purchase: Auto generate thumbnail for uploaded files? Can set permissions for who can access gallery and who can upload videos? Can compress uploaded videos? Can use S3 as storage for uploaded videos? Videos have an inbuilt video player as opposed to relying on the user's browser? Thanks again.
  2. Hi @Michael.J, Just curious, would you be open to the idea of allowing user uploaded videos to your application (i.e. upload direct to the site) as opposed to simply linking to media from youtube, vimeo etc? I realise this can be done in the IPS gallery, but it's very clunky. Videos are called images. There's no automatic thumbnail generation. There's no compression. It relies on user's own video player rather than a standard one. Etc Lots of features are missing from it that make it very usable as a video gallery, whereas your application seems like it would be ideal for this. I'm not sure if it's something you've considered, but I'd certainly be happy to contribute to the development costs if it were. Thanks.
  3. I have not made any changes to settings, yet the search index has crashed twice now, both times turning the entire site into a 500 error. Any ideas what may be causing this? Thanks.
  4. I was so disappointed to see 4.5 seems to have no video improvements at all. I appreciate there's only so many things that can be prioritised, but I just feel like video content is so fundamental now, and yet video support still feels so far behind with ips. I mean the gallery feature literally still calls a video an 'image'. Would love to see some kind of video encoding, ability to generate thumbnails, and a custom/standard video player etc. Would totally transform the gallery (and forum) experience.
  5. I think you are right that running a query to db and to aws command line is the answer, I'm just not sure what that would be to rename titles with special characters?
  6. Thank you, although it is all of the existing files I'm most concerned about. It just seems odd Invision wouldn't account for that in the transfer procedure, no? I can't be the first person to have gallery files with special characters in the title 😂 I am not expecting you to come up with a solution by the way, I already appreicate all your efforts. I am just posting in the hope someone out there perhaps has been through this and found a problem, or ideally someone from Invision can work on a solution to this problem, and I'll then re-do the transfer.
  7. Thank you. That seems to be it exactly. The files affected are the ones that had 'characters to avoid' from the page you sent. Unfortunately I do not know how to do the kind of preprocessing to either the s3 key or my db in order to fix that. I very much assumed that the s3 tutorial provided by the Invision was enough, and I cannot find any kind of guidance on the pre processing you mention. So I think you are exactly right on what the problem and solution is, I just have no idea how to perform the solution. 😅 Thanks for your continued help, it really is very appreciated.
  8. Thank you both very much for the tips. However, surely invision's S3 integration should work without buying anything extra? @Matt I believe this is a critical fault with changing the storage method. By switching to amazon s3, any file with special characters in the title no longer works. (all other files did work, so it as not an issue with the transfer, but with the integration between IPS and S3 - I followed the official Invision guide exactly). This is not just a minor glitch, it has wiped out around 20% of our files which is an incredible amount of data.
  9. As of right now I just followed this guide exactly: Just using standard S3 storage. Majority of files worked as expected after transfer, but some (seemingly those with special characters in the title) no longer load via the gallery. I believe it's a (pretty major) bug related to the file names.
  10. I believe it may be files that have special characters in its title that are affected (could be wrong about that, havent checked them all yet as many thousands). Just seems like that would be a crazy bug to have not already been picked up... so I'm hoping I'm just missing something.
  11. Followed the steps to move 'gallery image' files over to amazon s3 storage. Many worked as expected, but around 20% the files no longer load/work. Tried clearing cache. All of them are in the same folder with same permissions. Any ideas? 😕 Thanks in advance.
  12. Fingers cross for invision community 5.0 maybe? 😁 I just feel like the videos in the gallery right now feel tacked on the end (perhaps highlighted best by the fact that videos are still referred to as an 'image' when editing them in the gallery). As the internet becomes more and more driven by video content, I would love to see Invision adapt.
  13. A long shot I know, but I'd love to see the gallery become a truly video-friendly place. > Automatic thumbnail option (generated from midway point in video perhaps) > Video compression options > Inbuilt video player, rather than relying on users browser's video player. Would be willing to pay for anyone who developed these features too.
  14. I realise you can't give a set date, but is 4.5 reasonably close (i.e. within the next few months)? 🙂
  15. Firstly, having used IPS in the past with the standard mainstream payment gateways, I just want to say thanks for creating such a great, seamless experience for users when paying. Unfortunately, I am sure there are a fair few of us who run sites deemed too high-risk by the likes of PayPal and Stripe (and it is far more than just hardcore adult sites that fall into this category). I realise this may be a long-shot, but I just wanted to throw out there a request for integration with a 'high-risk' payment processor, such as CCBIll (or any other processor that accepts a wider range of sites). I am aware there is currently a third party plugin for $500 for partial ccbill integration, but for a more hobby-based site this is a large upfront fee, and it does not appear to work seamlessly with commerce features in the same way paypal/stripe would (no payout options to members etc). Your entire site's revenue being dependant on a third-party add-on is also quite risky in itself, so the idea of IPS supporting something like this in its core functionality would be incredible for many of us. (This is certainly not a criticism of the developers working on third party plugins, just a desire to see IPS offer their own version). I realise the fundamental problem here is not to do with IPS, but instead the way all high-risk niches are lumped in together regardless of a site's track record or specific usage case. However, we have to work with what we've got, and there are some payment processors that do allow a broader range of sites and communities to accept payments. My (wishful) request is for one of these high-risk payment processors to seamlessly work with IPS in the same way stripe and paypal do. I think there are a surprising number of people who can't use the standard payment processors due to their restrictions. I just wanted to make this thread as it might sound like quite an obscure need, but 'high risk' includes things like virtual game currencies, fantasy sports league prizes etc - the amount of communities that would benefit from the inclusion of this type of payment gateway would be huge. Whilst it would be a big win for site owners like myself, it would hopefully be a win for IPS too in terms of attracting new customers to their commerce package. I already know of two other website owners would purchase an IPS license if this type of integration was included. Thanks.
  16. Thanks. Certainly looks like it could be a good temporary solution, and I appreciate the developer's work on it. Having said that, the comments suggest it's quite buggy and lacking a very key feature (the 'premium reactions' concept the first reviewer refers to), and the execution of it (e.g. giving users an error message rather than just not showing them the reaction) certainly isn't quite how I'd hoped it would be. I realise I'm being very picky here (and perhaps a little wary about having to rely on yet another add-on that has mixed feedback and infrequent updates), but I still maintain that improved reaction control would be brilliant as a core feature in IPS. I think a lot of people would use it.
  17. I have captcha enabled, but recently have been getting a large amount of spam via the contact form. I am reluctant to stop guests being able to use it in case of any login issues. It would be great if the question and answer challenge spam protection could be used on the contact form as well as registration, as that works far more successfully for our community. Or alternatively, anything better than the current success rate of captcha. Thanks a lot.
  18. I'd love to see the reactions featured expanded to include: Reactions based on permissions - only certain users can use certain reactions Different reputation point values for different reactions (not just +1 or -1, but +2 for example) Reaction reports - flag how much user X has reacted to user Y or what percent of user X's reactions are from user Y (to prevent reaction 'spam'/abuse) Just a few ideas that would help add an extra dimension to reactions in our community, which are a hugely popular feature. I realise for some sites these would be overkill, but I'm sure for others they could be a very welcome addition, especially as I imagine the first 2 wouldn't be too complex to add. Thanks a lot.
  19. A very belated response - but thanks for pointing me in the right direction for those plugins. I'll certainly take a look at both, but I still feel in the future it would be great to see more announcement options within core IPS. For example: Announcements via notifications Announcements via private messages Announcements as popup window Announcement where something must be agreed to / clicked / acknowledged before proceeding to use site (similar to when rules/terms change, but customisable for other uses) I realise different paid plugins can do some of these, but I am sure I can't be alone in hoping that IPS consider adding more ways to directly reach users in future versions.
  20. I understand the most recent version of IPS improved the ability to search for conversations. However, on my communities a lot of members have conversations with a substantial amount of pages, and so being able to search inside of an individual conversation would make life far easier. For example, you could search for a specific phrase and be taken straight to page 46 of the conversation where the phrase was used, rather than just to page 1 of the conversation. Improved search functionality for individual conversations would be a huge plus for my community, and I'm sure others who heavily use the conversation feature. Many thanks.
  21. It'd be great if there were an option for announcements to be pushed out as notifications to specific user groups (as in the little bell notifications, rather than a box above the forum/sidebar as it currently is). Not sure if there is a reason this isn't included, but I'm sure many people would have uses for this. 🙂
  22. This was well over a week of everyone getting the same set of images. I then took the block down as people were commenting that it's not very random if it's the same image constantly. There's no external caching being used, so is there a setting I'm missing that could cause such an extended amount of block caching, or does it indeed just seem like a bug? Thanks to everyone for their help.
  23. Just some quick feedback - I have a site with many 1000's of images, and yet if I add the 'random' gallery feed sidebar block, it will pull from the same 20 or so images always (for all users, despite clearing cache etc). Settings are definitely correct to allow 'any' image regardless of rating/author. There would literally be tens of thousands of possibilities with this criteria, so it's too coincidental for every user to 'randomly' get the same tiny sample every time. And they then never change. (For example, one time you'll get one set of 10, the next time the other set of 10. then repeat). Is this a known bug, or a setting I'm missing to ensure random truly is completely random from the entire available images? Thanks.
