  1. Hey, hey, let's back off of Archon Neo. If he wants to wait for subscription manager, it's his prerogative. :)

Beta 2 should be released very soon (this week, there is a "soft" release in the customer lounge for those brave customers who wish to try it on their board).

Yea I guess sometime in August it will be released. I'll just wait for it 'till then. That's the most important thing for me. One of the forums I administer depends on the subscription manager. There are over 200 active members with recurring subscriptions. I cannot, and will not, do beta tests on a live board. I exclude myself from the beta testing because all I will most likely do is (first figure out how to use paypal sandbox) then do what everybody else has been doing, fooling around clicking on stuff.

I'll just wait and see how long it takes to get this finished. Would you like to place a bet Bfarber?

  2. Yep im aware of that.

I just thought it was going to ship with 3.0 - its something i really could use right now.

No actually it was something that was supposed to be shipped in the "next betas."

    Date: December 2008

Same excuse for the next beta: http://forums.invisionpower.com/topic/280965-invision-power-board-3-0-0-beta-2-released/

Feb 20, 2009: New Statement: "Subscription Manager is not included in this beta." -source

    Beta 4, yup, same statement

What about Beta 5? Actually, there is no mentioning of the subscription manager here. -source

No report on the subscription manager for RC1 *and* RC2.

But we do get another excuse once 3.0 came out.

"The subscriptions manager and MS-SQL database driver are not yet available. They will be released separately very soon. Our apologies for the delay. Rest assured we are making these releases a priority." - June 25 2009 source

Let's compare that with this statement made a year ago
"Chat Services and Subscription Manager are not included in this beta. They will be available in future betas." - December 22 2008 source

  3. The problem with that is that you can't participate in the beta testing, so if there's a bug that is yet unfound that you end up finding after the final is released, it's a bug that could have been fixed before final.

That and I'd expect final to be release before October (ie, August or September). Of course, I'm trying to over estimate a bit here, but even if it were to be the end of September, your license would still be valid. Heck, at this point, anytime this year and your license would still be valid.

Yes I had the same mentality back in November when I purchased another license* to get 3.0 (waiting for the estimated q4 release). But it took a little longer than 6 months didn't it? I'll rather wait and renew my license when I actually need the service.

    *I meant a renewal license

  4. There is an open discussion about it, in which Matt is keeping activate customers up to date, located here:

    IP.Subscriptions 1.0.0 Beta 1

I'll be renewing my license *after* the subscription manager is released.

And Matt has also been keeping people up to date on his Twitter about Beta 2 :)

I've been checking it and on occasion I do see updates.

  5. Matt has been posting regular updates on the subscription manager in the customer lounge, which I realize you can't see. Long story short, he's been working hard at stabilizing many long-standing bugs and tweaking some of the code to provide for some better functionality. The next beta should be out soon. Was scheduled for this week, but Matt started on some bug fixes today he's not ready to distribute yet until he tests them more.

There are reasons why I am not renewing a subscription for which I have no need as of yet. I am sure I am not the only customer here whom is unsatisfied with the event background of the subscription manager, especially with the denied releases in every single beta and release candidate.

All I ask is for the IPS staff to respect this specific share of their customers by not leaving them in the dark of events which are their utmost concern regarding IP.Board.

  6. Perhaps I am mistaken on this, but I was under the impression that IPS was originally going to just do away with the SM altogether until it became known that many sites make use of it. Regardless though, once it's released, it's supposed to become a community project, so it can/will get extra features/options added to it, making it well worth the wait because it will do more than before.

From what I understood they wanted to separate it from the board, making it a community project.

I still would like some status updates. I've been waiting since November 2008. Should I wait for a whole year? Maybe we're supposed to wait 2 years.

  7. Quoting them from the ticket "I've looked into this before and it's not that easy to resolve I'm afraid."

So it would appear that it was too difficult for them to do so they waited several years until IPB 3.

In other words they basically left their customers (who depend on the subscription manager) out to dry.

Well even if that's true I didn't have much problems with the subscription manager on a site I manage. Just a few problems that I already mentioned in this thread. Let's just hope it doesn't take 3 years to get the important stuff squared away (if they exist). :P

  8. If history has taught you anything you should have known it was going to take a long time regardless of what they made it sound like.

One of the biggest bugs on the subscription manager was reported back in November 2007 and another back in July 2006 and those were just recently fixed on beta 1.

That alone should tell you nothing is going to happen quickly which is why I'm still on 2.3.6.

that's probably because they didn't pay attention to it. It's not like it was such a massive bug it took them 3 years to fix.
  9. Yea I get it. What I meant by final rc was just 1 rc (not 2 or more).

Beta, Beta, RC, Final. So this next beta will probably take 2 weeks I guess, then the rc about 2-3 weeks estimating to about 5 weeks. I wonder if that's accurate.

Well, it's possible that no bugs are reported for Beta2 (w00t) .

  10. Matt is planning on releasing the next beta tomorrow last I heard. :)

Okay thanks. While I understand these aren't concrete dates due to future circumstances, I still want to you ask in your opinion, how long would it take for final RC to be released, and afterward, the actual release? I will not hold you accountable if you're predictions do not come true. I would just like a rough timeline, say 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks?

    Thanks,
    A.Neo
  11. Thanks for your response. When it is released I will report any errors I get from my members. I have about 200+ active subscriptions so I bet that would help a bit.

Here are the problems/complaints I've had for 2.3.6 (not very many)

    1. Automatic renewal (I at first didn't know such a setting existed. So I had to go in, disable it, and tell the members to remove any subscriptions from their paypal)
    2. Double billed. Alot of my members were getting double-billed and I think it had to do with the automatic subscription issue. Once I disabled that, this problem wasn't reported any more.
    2. Renewing before expiration. Many members wanted to renew their subscription before it expires and found it frustrating that they can't.
    3. Failed transactions. On rare occasions the system would report a failed transaction or a transaction of $0.00 even though the payment was really successful (money was already sent to paypal). I had to manually take care of subscriptions for some members.
    4. Paypal / E-check delay. I don't know how people or paypal does this but a few members use e-checks and report long delays on getting their account approved even though the money was sent. When this happens I manually approve the accounts. I have some members from afghanistan and saudi arabia, and *maybe* there are some discrepancies with how electronic funding works there.

  12. How many beta releases is planned for the Subscription Manager? Is this a project that will take a week, a month, or 5 months to complete? Can I get some sort of deadline. It doesn't have to be accurate. I just want a ballpark area. I waited for the subscription manager this whole time since 2008 when a Q4 release was estimated. I waited to see it in beta releases, and in the RC's but didn't turn up.

So I'm sure you will understand why I am a bit frustrated for this long delay. Nothing personal here. I would just like an honest estimate as would many of your paid customers.

  13. Beta 1 of the Subscription Manager was released yesterday. Did you overlook it?

Or did you mean you hoped that the Subs Manager Final would be released with 3.0.1?

I meant final. I don't have an active subscription. I'm waiting until the subscription manager is released. I have been waiting since October 2008.
