  1. I'm glad as well. If I knew that these installation problems with these add-ons had to do with deleting the original default skin (something that wasn't apparent to myself, nor to the community nor IPS staff) then I could have saved myself a lot of chest pains and headaches.

  2. Mark, if I sounded impertinent, you have my sincere apologies, sir. That wasn't my intent. I submitted a support ticket and there apparently was a bug. IPS Support explained that I must have deleted the original default skin and that was why I was getting the error when I tried to setup IP.Chat.

On another note: there seems to be an error when clicking on the "Reply" button attached to any message here in this topic. I get the following error message:

    [#103133] NO_SUCH_TOPIC

  3. AtariAge,

Well, it's working for me. I ended up sending in a support ticket on this issue as I did not know if it would be covered by support. However, they were kind enough to fix this problem for me and ended up addressing my problem.

  4. Regarding the error problem I experienced with this installation of IP.Chat:

Well, I received a response from Giuseppe Casagrande from IPS Support. Apparently, when you delete the original default forum skin (ID: 1), that the IPB system causes an error, a bug, that affects versions of IPB 3.0.5, at least, that's the way I understand it from the response I received. Apparently, this bug has been fixed in version 3.0.5.

I'm just wondering why this has never been mentioned before.

  5. Well, actually, that means that this is the first IPS application you've had trouble with. IP.Shoutbox is a community project. This means IPS' only involvement is lending special support to the developers, project hosting, and their name. It's not something that Brandon or Matt spend 8 hours a day working on.

Actually, you're incorrect. IP.Shoutbox is an official IPS release and it's released by IPS Resources. Check out the information at IPS Resources. I'm just not bothering with either of these releases because of the problems I'm having with their installs. It's really bothersome that I've had these problems with installing these addons.
  6. I have no idea. The only thing that I do know is that these error messages are real and that it's affecting me when I try to install it. The problem with IP.Shoutbox began way back when my forums were upgraded to 3.0.2. Since then, I haven't been able to successfully install IP.Shoutbox. Now, it appears the same problem is happening with IP.Chat. I don't know how to explain. Unless IPS can install these add-ons, which I doubt the license for IPB covers, anyway.

And, as far as looking at the code? I know very little about the code for IPB to go around messing with it.

  7. Brandon, I have installed and uninstalled this program more than a few times and this isn't the first IPS Application that I have had trouble with. I have encountered this same error wit IP.Shoutbox which is why I don't use it. I'm starting to have doubts about these add-ons. The only problems I haven't had installing have been the IPB upgrades (which IPS handles the upgrades) and the installation of IP.Content. Everything else seems to fly out the window.

This isn't meant to be negative but there's obviously a problem, as far as when I try to install it on my site.

  8. Figured it out. It went through fine but it refuses to connect to chat. I get the following error:

Call to a member function chatRules() on a non-object in /home/******/public_html/board/admin/applications_addon/ips/chat/modules_public/ipschat/chat.php on line 423

Fatal error: Call to a member function chatRoom() on a non-object in /home/****/public_html/board/admin/applications_addon/ips/chat/modules_public/ipschat/chat.php on line 289

  9. maybe that's the problem. I only use IE and Firefox in an emergency. Mostly, I use Opera. It's just messed up that it doesn't work in Opera since it's been around quite some time. But, that still doesn't explain the setup problem. There are no settings to entrer in the Application key #.

  10. Ha Ha! It was a joke.

But, seriously. What's the deal with installing it? There are no help or instruction files and IP.Chat does not appear in my ACP so that I can install it or change the settings.

Charles, just what else are you supposed to do after uploading the files, which I have already done?!

  11. This chat bites. After uploading the files to the directories required, there is no option to install this in the ACP. There are no settings in ACP. And nowhere to enter in the chat key. This was just a waste of time.

  12. File Name: IPB 3 Skin Fix for Topic Mini-Profile View
    File Submitter: Colonel Wolfie
    File Submitted: 19 Jul 2009
    File Category: Modifications

Some of you may notice that when importing a new skin to IPB3, that your Mini Profile, that is attached to every message you post, isn't properly aligned or formatted. Well, After spending a lot of time trying to figure out what top edit (and I did this on my own) I figured out what to edit and where.

The files that you need to edit are done through your forum's ACP. This isn't a hook or a source file edit, just follow the instructions found in the attached file. Also, before you do this edit, please be sure that you backup the entire CSS file before you do this edit. I have checked this out and it works perfectly. The Profile information lines back up perfectly and it should fix the formatting problems.

There is no Demo or Screenshot available and I have tested this myself on a demo board.

This is an edit that is done solely through the IPB3 ACP (Admin Control Panel).

    Remember the following:

    1. For every skin that you need to fix, be sure that you make a backup of the ipb_styles.css, of every skin that you need to fix, before you commit to this edit.

    2. This is not a Hook or Application. This is a manual edit that you need to conduct through the ACP of your forums.

    3. These edits also need to be conducted to every skin you have that is affected.

    4. If it works for you, please post a comment and let everyone else know.

  13. File Name: IPB 3: Post's Don't Decrease Upon Deletion
    File Submitter: Colonel Wolfie
    File Submitted: 26 Jun 2009
    File Category: Modifications

Special thanks to Michael, this mod has been adapted to work with IPB 3.x.x. I have tested it and it works fine. This is a continuing modification from the original created by Labonte18. This mod has been tested and updated to work with IPB 3.0.0, PHP 5 and MYSQL 5.

When you delete a posted message from IPB, the stats on the forums homepage decreases every time you delete a posted message. With this mod, the "Total Posted Messages" as reported in the Board Stats on the Forum Index page will list the actual number of messages posted to your forum.

Running ACP->Tools and Settings->Recount and Rebuild->Rebuild User Post Count will completely negate the function of this mod, as it will reset the posts field in ibf_members. So don't do it.

    SPECIAL NOTE:

If you have deleted posted messages from your forums before adding this mod and you need to restore that post count I have found an easy way to do this. Just follow these instructions:

    1. Go into your Admin Control Panel and create a dummy account or dead account. (This will serve as a place holder for these missing posts.) Then, edit that account and you will see a text field where you can edit the number of posted messages for that account. If your forums have just registered it's 100,000th posted message, and you deleted 10,000 combined messages, just enter 10,000 or whatever the missing number is and this number will be reported in the "Board Stats" reported in the footer section on the main page of your forums.

    2. You can also edit "your" account with that missing number as well, but bear in mind that you would need to "add" that number to your already available post count.

This is just an easy way to make sure that your forums are reporting the most recently "total posted messages" as it's registered in your database.

  14. File Name: Top Ten Posters Hook (Pre-Tested; Really Works)
    File Submitter: Colonel Wolfie
    File Submitted: 07 Jan 2009
    File Category: Hooks and Plugins

This is the hook for the Top Ten Posters Module that will appear on the index page for IPB3. Someone had changed somoe of the code around and posted it on the IPB3 Preview Site. I've tested this hook on my test site and it really works. All you have to do is upload the XML file into your ACP.

    1. Log into your ACP for IPB3.
    2. Go to: System > Application > Applications & Modules > Manage Hooks
    3. Scroll down to where it says 'Install a New Hook'
    4. Click on the 'Browse' button and upload this file, the system will automatically import the file
    5. After the file import is completed find the section on the same page where it says 'Disabled Hooks'
    6. Click on the 'down arrow' and choose 'Enable Hook'
    7. And you're ready to go

Like I said, this hook actually works as I have already tested it. Special thanks to jayslee for posting the right file for downloading.
