My site just refuses to work and comes up with Error 500 when changing from php version 7.4 to version 8.0.

I have disabled all 3rd party customisations and tried to access Admin area but it still comes up with error 500. As soon as i change it back to PHP 7.4 everything works as it should.

Regards

I assume you're running on the latest version of IPB software?  Have you confirmed your PHP 8 installation meets all of the system requirements?

Make sure to run it while you're actually on PHP 8 to make sure you see any modules that might be missing.

And in terms of disabling everything, I assume you checked for Applications AND Plugins?  That you also switched back to a default theme?

I hade one error come up, which is no doubt the problem:

  • You do not have the Multibyte String PHP extension loaded which is required. You should contact your hosting provider or system administrator to ask for it to be installed.

I'll get onto my host.

Thanks

That will indeed cause the site to fail entirely. Please get that sorted first. If you then still have issues, please check the server error logs to see what else is being logged
