David N. Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 Lately I've seen this happen where sometimes I'll type an answer, click "Submit Reply" and the "Submit Reply" button is dimmed to indicate I've clicked it, yet the post doesn't seem to be added (the text entry box stays open). If I refresh the page then I realize that the post had been added. When this happens, I can tell it's happening to others as well because they must click "Submit Reply" again, resulting in double or triple posts.
Marc Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 It sounds like its in the process of posting. Check your email error logs to check you havent got issues with your email. Thats the most common cause of slow posting, as it sends out notifications David N. 1
David N. Posted June 2, 2022 Author Posted June 2, 2022 (edited) Thanks Marc. I went to my Admin CP and saw this, no idea what that is? Edited June 2, 2022 by Jamynee
David N. Posted June 2, 2022 Author Posted June 2, 2022 In my Admin panel under "Email Error Logs" it says "There are no results to display."
Marc Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 It looks like notifications arent going out too quickly for you there. I would suggest setting up a cron for those, rather than running with traffic. For the issue of posting, please first of all disable all 3rd party applications and test this again. David N. 1

Marc Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 That is the correct location. You would switch to "Use Cron" and set up cron on your server as shown in the message below it. If you are not sure how to set up a cron job on your server, you will need to contact your hosting company on this David N. 1

Solution Marc Posted June 2, 2022 Solution Posted June 2, 2022 If that is already selected and you have no cron job set up on your server, then this is why your tasks arent running. You would need to either switch it to run with traffic, or set up the cron job on your server. The latter would be the better of the 2 SeNioR- 1
David N. Posted June 2, 2022 Author Posted June 2, 2022 Thanks so much. So it was related to me moving the forum software from domainname.com/forum/ to domainname.com yesterday. The cron job still had an old domainname.com/forum/ URL inside so I changed it to the one suggested by the Invision Community software and now notifications are working again and Submit Reply is snappy again. Once again, thank you so much @Marc Stridgen for all your help sleuthing these issues. I would have never have found out this issue without your help. 😃 Still worried about that message "When this setting is enabled you MUST ensure that the cron is set up properly. If this setting is turned on but no cron is set up it will cause significant damage to your site." Is it possible that I've caused significant damage to my site? 😬
Marc Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 No, not at all. While significant, it's not generally irreversible, and will be resolved once the cron resumes. David N. 1
