Hi,

Everything is in the title.

I can't figure out how to hide EXIF info of images published in Galleries.

Many thanks for your help.

In AdminCP go to System -> Files and click on the button Image Settings.

This would strip EXIF system-wide, not only in Gallery.

Indeed this is the only way in which to do it without customisation

Hi,

In fact it's not working.

EXIF info are still shown on the front-end.

Even with this option enabled.

I tried to clear the cache system.

I tried to upload a new photo (to see if it works only for new photos uploads)

But in both cases, EXIF info remains.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Livio.

I can see this happening on your site and will need to get this escalated. I have created a ticket for you for this reason, and will get that sent to our developers to review

As followup for anyone reading at a later date, upper-tier support clarified the matter:

This is actually working as intended. This setting strips the EXIF from the actual image file itself.

Gallery shows a range of EXIF data about the camera/device, but does not show a location unless specifically enabled by the person that uploaded the image.

To clarify on this, it strips EXIF data from the file itself, but only removes sensitive information. We have an internal discussion to clarify this, and potentially make changes to this.

I know this is digging up a really old post, but is there a way to completely remove the EXIF data from showing. We have no legitimate need for our users to see this.

Not at present. There is only the option to remove sensitive information.

Unfortunately, there are only 2 options available at this time:

  1. You can manually remove the EXIF data from the template: gallery > front > view > metadata.
  2. Use a custom modification to hide/remove it without editing the template. Not editing the template means it can auto-update with future upgrades rather than getting stuck on your custom edit. (Recommended)

It doesn't always remove sensitive info, one of my members is a pro photographer and he messaged me to say that his full business info, address and location was on display

I think it would be a better to be able to remove all exif data as an extra admin option

If they placed their data in a non-descriptive field which we don’t strip, it will indeed show. We only strip certain fields.

If there are more fields that your users use, feel free to post those and any other feedback in the Feedback forum.
