The majour benefits are that all known bugs have been fixed, and if any security issue has been discovered in the previous version(s), it is fixed too. If you are upgrading to a major version, for example from 4.4. to 4.5., you will also enjoy the many great new options that have been added as well as the new very beautiful default theme.
