I am getting an error message whenever I try to edit an event. See attachement.

Is there a permission check for this? I have tried to find it but I can only find 

Is there a setting somewhere else that I need to check to be able to edit an event?

Check your group permissions to determine if there is a time limit set for how long content can be edited after it is posted.

I think these settings do not prevent this group from editing Events.

However the database does get updated when I edit a field. After saving, it redirects to an error page.  

Given your followup information, I'd suggest opening a ticket to support so we can examine your install to see if there is something specific within it which is causing this error.
