How to Install SSL

Hi All,

I installed IPB as a subdomain...example: forum.XYZ.com however when I installed it a few months back I did so using http. Now however I have an SSL certificate. How can I change all URLs to make the site, site-wide SSL secure? http to https? I have tried changing the "global config" file via FTP from http to https as "base-url" however it keeps going back to http after I save and upload.

Not sure what else I can do? Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Clearing the cache in the ACP and making sure that you don't use absolute URLs on your site, e.g. in the menu manager.

HI @opentype how would I go about doing this or checking this? Thanks!

Hi Rhett,

Hi Rhett,

I carried out the steps also using the support section to clean out cache however I find that whenever I log out of Filzilla and back in to check the conf_global.php fils the base URL is always set back to http rather than https though I save it and upload it back to server...odd..THe backend (admin panel) is fine and utilized https with green padlock. But the rest of the site just wont switch.

This indicates that your permissions on the conf_global.php file are not proper (writable) when trying to edit, so your changes are not being saved, check your permissions first on that file, then edit and save, then you should be good.
