It does seem odd that there's no option to allow members to receive a birthday PM/E-Mail from the board.

This is better off as an add-on (hook). I'm pretty sure companies like NBC wouldn't make use of it because it can be a PITA or a useless function depending on how it's done.

There are tons of features what arent enabled as default. If NBC doesnt need this, they dont have to enable it.

It's better off as a mod.. Although I personally believe that it should be a free one (there are some mods that I agree are worth paying for).

I don't foresee us including any "birthday auto greeter" type of code in IPB in the immediate future. If you require this right away, your best option is to use a modification.

There is a both a paid and a free modification for 3.0.x for those who require this :)

They are quite different in functionality / features though, not the same mod at all.
