Interferon Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 If the user is in "Invision Power Services > Invision Power Services, Inc. > IPS Company Feedback > IP.Board" then when they enter a search term in the search box in the header, the scope of the search should be limited to the directory they are in. I'm very surprised this isn't the default behavior.
bfarber Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 It was the default behavior when 3.0 was first released. It confused practically all of our users and we were asked to change it, and reintroduce a separate search field for forum/topic.
bfarber Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Our users happen to be our customers, and as the saying goes "the customer is always right". ;) We have to appease the majority at the end of the day.
Interferon Posted January 8, 2010 Author Posted January 8, 2010 Sometimes you have to protect the user from their own shortsightedness. I do it all the time. Anyways, I'd really like a search scope option, because we have a highly technical forum with a lot of subsections. It's very frustrating to not be able to do a quick search of the section you are in.
Michael Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 You can do a quick search of the section you are in, you just can't do it through the global search box in the upper right. While in a forum or topic, look in the lower left for a search box, that box will search just the forum/topic you are in.
