Why aren't usernames in color of usergroup?

I don't think the member names ever were, it's always taken a mod to do that. The 2.3 version had it like it is now, with the group name in the appropriate color. Names are only colored in the Active Users lists in the Board, Forum, and Topic views.

I've always wondered why user names weren't globally formatted as a stock feature. Even phpBB does that.

phpBB is actually the only software I know of that truly does it globally by default, all the rest I've seen don't format last poster names on the board index or when viewing a forum.

vBulletin does it, too, by use of <span> tags. This is how I think it should be done in IP.Board, as well.

But it isn't truly global in vBulletin, there are a few places where names aren't formatted.
