Not without modification to the 2.1 source code, no - it's a 2.2 feature.

Why isn't the image background randomly generated?

It's insanely difficult to try to randomly just generate a background image that's suitable...yet still have text readable. ;) It's easier to pull in a background image.

The bg was generated in 2.1, but this change makes it harder or bots to "read"

Since IPS hass been running the new version for a while, how is the new captcha holding up? Have you noticed a drop in spam registrations?

Anyone else got any input on how good it is compared to the old one? :)

is it as easy as just uploading backgrounds and fonts? or is there somewhere we have to modify the code or something in the admin cp?

Not too sure on the fonts personally, but I know you simply need to upload the new images.

Edit: After testing, you can upload your own .ttf fonts as well. :)

and yeah, I've been uploading background images. its quite fun to make ugly things :P

I haven't tried the fonts yet. I think I may leave those. its hard enough to read them right now!
