Logan Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 What are your guys' opinions on this?http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?...mp;bug_cat_id=4Please post them in that report also... since Brandon would like to see what others' think.
Keith J. Kacin Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I think it is best left how it is.It gives the user the option of how many line breaks they want between the quote and their text.If they want it just right under the quote, they can. If they want to add two, they can. Whatever they want.
Logan Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 But it looks so odd, I really don't like it haha.All quotes should look the same, well the spacing between a quote and the text beneath it for consistency.
Keven Fox Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Actually I thought the same thing, I think there should be at least one break from the quote to the reply.
Logan Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Actually I thought the same thing, I think there should be at least one break from the quote to the reply.That'd work... but I would prefer it be the same amount of linebreaks for regular quotes now. Which is one linebreak between the actual quote and the post... looks great.

Keith J. Kacin Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 This is something that people will always debate. Some people will like it one way, others will like it another.I think this way it pleases everyone. There is the option to not hit the enter key, and keep your text right up next to the quote - if that is what you want.If you don't want that, you can simply hit the enter key once before typing your reply.
Logan Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 But then it looks so inconsistent because of differently spaced quotes. It's a quote, there shouldn't be an option... it should be a one-way thing. {quote}{
}{post}
Guest Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Edit: I didn't read the bug report. Nevermind. :P
Keith J. Kacin Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 But then it looks so inconsistent different quotes. It's a quote, there shouldn't be an option... it should be a one-way thing. {quote}{
}{post}It will also be inconsistent if someone hits the enter key twice, which I know a lot of people do. Like me. Some people will not hit it all, some people will hit it once, twice, three times.There is no way to make it totally consistent. I personally don't see this as a big deal at all.
Logan Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 It's not that big of a deal, but this is just my feedback and opinion hoping for a change haha.It actually doesn't look bad with more than one linebreak... as long as there is one that's good (looking at your's and others)I'd be more than happy with just to check if there is a linebreak between the quote and text.. if not add one. As long as there is one or more it looks fine.. just without looks very strange.
UBERHOST.NET Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I guess it is consistent with posting a fresh message (without quote).I do agree that it looks fugly pressed up against the quote box, however.
Κeith Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 As I mentioned in the bug report you linked, it's a matter of each poster's preference.If you feel that you need to edit the margin-bottom of .quotemain to make it somewhat more consistent, feel free, just know that you're going to be ruining it anyway. :PLet's say you add the eight pixel margin back to the bottom, and I hit return because that's what I like to do. Now you've got just about twice the difference in white space than a person that just leaves their text.
TCWT Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 How come when I click on Add Reply, the cursor doesn't automatically appear on the text box? I prefer it this way.
Brandon C Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I agree with Logan, I believe there should be a linebreak between the quote and the text. :)
Keith J. Kacin Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 What do you recommend for admins/users who don't want a line break?It is much easier to add a line break when replying rather than recoding a section of the board to remove one.
Brandon C Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I personally think there should be an on/off toggle switch in the ACP Settings that allows you whether you want the linebreak on (meaning you could have "X" number of linebreaks inserted between quote and text, if yes) or off (no linebreak inserted between quote and text) when quoting posts. I think you all could get it in before 2.2 on Friday, couldn't you all? This seems fairly easy to do, but if it's not, I understand. Just some little feature that allows you to switch this on and off would be great and would definitely fix this problem.

A setting in order to decide if you want a line break? Especially when all you need to do is hit enter before you type your post?

But I think we should find what the majority wants and go from there with the default setting for it from here on in.
Keith J. Kacin Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Personally speaking (again, I don't really decide what's best. The customers do):If you look at the posts above, with quotes, you will see that none of them are up against the quote box. Mostly because its habit to hit a line break between the quote and your typing for most people.With it how it currently is, if someone wants it with no line breaks, they can. If they want it with line breaks, they can. How it is currently setup, it limits no one.

Κeith Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Since there's been options for the new/classic profile view people want settings for everything. >_<Hit return. Type. Submit.Simple. :)
