Username & Password in Validation Email
by Guest Murray- 4 replies
- 2.7k views
I have started up a new forum using Invision Power Board. I am very disappointed to learn that new members are not sent details of their username and password upon registering. We all know that some people register with a forum and then don't return for a visit until some time later and by the time they come back they can't remember their username and password. For example, I registered with this IPB forum some time back and today couldn't remember my username and password details (and I knew I was never sent an email with these) so I had to register again. Even people who visit a forum often may forget their username and password details - especially nowadays when we hav…

Just a small Idea
by Guest Millar- 4 replies

When you turn off the debug=1 feature on your board and the information, e.g Load Time, Server Load, Queries. You still have the link to the debug=1 feature, I manually removed this from all my skins but I think it can look a bit strange if someone would click the link and it only take you to the same page, it would be good if this was removed when you turned off the debug page feature. Just a small idea but it would just neaten it up a little.

PM Tracking
by Guest lupin84- 1 reply
- 1.8k views
It would be nice if it was possible to store a copy of sent PMs without having to tick that little track icon. Or maybe if it was ticked by default? I always forget then regret it. Might just be me but I'd like to see that in future versions. Ooh and bring back the red notification box that came up on the index when someone had a PM. So many users tell me they miss that now the PM pops up.

Ignore feature
by Guest .:NeMesiS:.- 6 replies

I don't know if this has been suggested or not. (sorry if it has) But the ignore feature needs a major upgrade. All of my members complain that the ignore feature should have a complete ignore. Meaning, instead of seeing a " you have chosen to ignore this member" message. It should like that person never excited; even on replies. Alot of other Message Board have this type ignore feature. Maybe we should too. Thank you for your time.

Customer Security Precautions
by Guest augenj- 3 replies
- 2.2k views
I see security suggestions all over the place. How about IPS producing a list of things that we as customers can do to protect our systems. Obviously, number 1 would be to - * Upgrade to the latest version when it becomes available. * What about the permissions for IPS hosted customers? (which we seem to have lost control over) * What about permissions for non-IPS hosted customers? Recommendations from IPS would be nice. * What type of files do we restrict in the ACP from being uploaded/accessed in the uploads folder? * The largest group of hackers seem to be .ru based. Block (for now) all .ru email registrations? * What mods seem to make our systems more vu…

Classification other than the Categories
by Guest softwarenerd- 1 reply
- 1.7k views
Right now, IPB supports a single heirarchical classification of Topics: Forum (category) --> Sub-Forum (category) --> ... ... -->Forum --> Topic One feature I would find useful is an alternate Category/Classification Tag applied to Topics. Here's an example: in a forum where the heirarchy is organized mainly by software-category, I would find it helpful to be able to tag some topics as "Rant", "Newbie Question", etc. One could extend the idea to allow multiple tags for a topic, but for my purposes, a single tag would be just fine. The use of the tag would be in Search, List functionality. Most importantly, I'd like to allow individual users to opt…

Admin over-ride user PM storage Limit
by Guest Coastie- 9 replies

I would like the ablility to over-ride a members PM storage limit. ie, a user has reached 50 stored PMs and their inbox is full. If an admin or supermod sends them a PM, it should go through, even with a full inbox.

What about making in IPB Next Version a set of hotkeys like: r - Reply to Topic (open the complete edit) n - New Topic (create a topic in current forum) h - Home (back to the forums home) to_decide - Jump to Next Topic (next topic in current forum) to_decide - Jump to Previous Topic (previous topic in current forum) ... And much more... :P Sometimes i'm so confused while browsing that i type r to reply and nothing happens... :D please save my mental sanity... :charles: o:) I hope that someone found that suggestion useful...

Modification installer built in.
by Guest sniggity- 15 replies
- 3.9k views
Man, being able to go down a list of preloaded modifications and click on something like and "Yes" or "No" button that stated "Install this mod now?" would be great. Some other boards have this already. It would be like the program Fantastico, but only for Invision boards. All this coding and the possibility of messing up your files due to one little code glitch is getting old. Just my $.02 Thanks for the great work, keep it up. And get us a Mod installer, guys ! ;)

PHPbb TEX in IPB Maths
by Guest Davidcopperfield- 2 replies

Hello I would like everybody to think is such feature would be adventageous in IPB http://matematyka.pl/viewtopic.php?t=3093 The language doesn't matter see the maths solution. Is it possible to converet such thing into IPB? If this is intended to be left as a mod, then produced solely by IPS, because third party mods and of such importance would impede hassle-free functioning of IPB

Is it possible to protect admins' posts against being deleted by moderators? In phpBB it is named as "Admin posts' protection" It means that onl;y admin himself/herself can edit or delete his/her posts.

If more than x user "report a topic to a moderator" the topi
by Guest klumy- 2 replies
- 1.8k views
If more than x user "report a topic to a moderator" the topic should be "temprarily" closed, until a moderator has reviewed this topic. think this could be especially useful, if the admin is in vacation for some month. so if a sepcial amount of people report a topic, the topic will be temporarily closed until the admin is back. in some countries the admin is liable for illegally posts. So I even think, this would be a really good built-in feature.

IPB Subversion Suggestion/Request
by Guest Sire- 6 replies

For IPB customers, you could setup a Subversion repository and we could run ' svn update ' each night to automatically secure our forums better by upgrading them to the latest patched versions.

Price Suggestion
by Guest TestingSomething- 10 replies

Does IPS ever offer discounts on perpetual licenses to current yearly customers? If not, they should. Because I personally would probably buy a perpetual, but as it is now I would feel like I wasted $70 on the first year or if I get another $yearly one, I will feel I wasted that because I would be spending in 2 years almost the entire perpetual price. It may be the difference between people staying or moving to someone else, in my opinion. I justhate feeling like I threw the entire yearly amount away.

Admin Session Logging
by Guest ZuCruTrooper2- 1 reply
- 1.8k views
After a recent hacking incident where someone gained access to my entire forum by guessing my password, I'd love to have some sort of session logging beyond what we have already. Like the current logs we have, session logging would tell who logged in when and from what IP and browser. Also, admin action logging that was more specific would be wonderful, instead of just "edited such and such's account", be like "edited such and such's account: modified signature, changed group" and something like that. Otherwise, it's very hard to track what is going on.

Skin over-haul
by Guest Enhanced Chaos- 3 replies
- 2.4k views
Ok well if you go to Matt Mechams blog, then look on the IPB section: I think the third post from the top will show you a screenshot of the 2.2 Admin CP. I think if the Admin CP skin is being updated, then the Board skin should also get the same treatment, and if you think about it, it would not be that much of a job..it could be done in a few days I guess.

Moderator logs
by Guest ellawella- 4 replies
- 2.1k views
They still don't log some actions like post editing and post merging, and haven't done so for a very long time. I have to keep track of which mods have edited which posts and when using a custom script I wrote. For the next version, IPB should log all moderator actions, not just some.

Better multi server / scalability options
by Guest ASFx- 3 replies

Right now it doesnt seem like there is any standard way to run IPB using multiple web servers. Using one web server and one database server is easy, but once you start needing to use two web servers with a load balancer, things get complicated. I recently had to start using two web servers and a load balancer, and the only way i could figure out how to do it was to copy the ipb files to both servers, then set them both to use the same database. This type of setup isn't very good because it caused me to have to disable avatar uploads and attachment uploads since whenever members upload an avatar or attachment, it would only go to one of the web servers so their avatar…

Checkbox Delete Post In Profile
by Guest youngwun0- 0 replies
- 1.4k views
I was just thinking....... It would be great if there was a multiselect option (check box) when viewing all of a members post in their profile similar to that of how we can multiselect threads in a section to delete by checking the boxes, reason is because it gets annoying having to go into a members profile and delete the post 1 by 1 when you need to delete a few post.

Gallery and blog stats on Board index I think this would be a useful feture to be added in this way you cah cahe your gallery and blog stats on the main board indes instead of having to go to the system to see the stats. Latest X Images uploaded ot the gallery in Profile I run a GFX community with my IPB. and would like it where the last 5 images the user has uploaded to the gallery would show up in their profile. thumbail wize. Latest Blog Entry in profile Even tho I haven't gotten my blog system yet This would also be a better way of seeing the last entry of the members blog even it it is a link to the latest entry. Link to gallery profile in profile and in topic…
