  1. Marc, thank you. Issue has resolved itself, unless you clicked a button. The issue was brought to my attention yesterday by a manager, and until this morning (8 hours ago), it didn't seem to work. But now it does. I don't really have an explanation -all the settings I changed, I then reset. But the browser, MS Edge, I see took 5 min to update a new post to the recent posts section today, despite refresh clicks and shift+F5. Open Club reply posts now appear in recent posts on the front page.

    Thanks again.

  2. Hi Marc. No, this is what I mean:

If I set a Club to "Public" a non-member of this Club can see all posts (Opening Post + replies) in the main forum Post (or Topic) Feed. However, there is no Membership for this specific type of club and anyone can reply without being a member of the club.

If I set a Club to "Open" only members of the Club can see all posts (Opening Post + replies) in the main forum Post/Topic Feed. There is a Membership for this specific type of club. When I set Clubs/Settings/ Show Club Content Areas to "Throughout the Community" a non-member of this Club can see newly started threads in the main forum Topic Feed, but no follow-up posts in the main forum Post feed.

I'd like to have the option to have "Open" Clubs with reply posts also visible in the main forum Post Feed, as a membership recruitment drive for the Clubs in question (so that everyone sees the activity there), while maintaining their membership lists and requirement to be a member to reply.

I hope that makes more sense.

  3. Hi folks. Is it possible to get posts from Open Clubs listed in the latest posts widget? If so, how? If I change Clubs settings to show content areas everywhere, I only see the first post of the thread.

I'd like to have posts from open Clubs showing normally in latest posts, unlike closed Clubs that show only for members.

  4. Is there a way to copy clubs? We have one type of club with an identical layout and I'd like to kinda copy/paste the layout (topics tabs, Events, etc) and header content to avoid needing to go through all of them one at a time..

Thanks, and a great day to all.

  5. Busy setting up clubs for our community - really appreciate the functionality. However, I would like to have the Settings for Clubs locked in after setup. Or requiring admin privileges to make changes later. Is that possible?

  6. Howdy. Is it possible to selectively apply themes to clubs pages? I'd like them to look different than the main forum. can individual clubs use different themes? Is so, how do I go about it?

    many thanks!

  7. thanks. I had already read that, but still didn't connect the dots between the message "member awaiting admin validation" and spam defense. I would have expected a message more like  "member requiring admin validation after triggering spam defense".

Still, after trying out stuff I learned that it's possible to find this info anyway. Here are the steps I used:

    1. click on the members IP

Could contain: Page, Text, Number, Symbol

    2. in this case select the spam defense log entry (arrow above).

    3. Find the spam response level at left (and compare with spam defense settings as in my post above)

    Could contain: Chart

  8. Fair enough. I'm a volunteer, first-time admin of a hobby forum that matters to me, so trying to be in the best possible position to protect my community if the need arises. Never done any IT stuff before, and there is a lot to learn. And unfortunately for my community, I'm all we have...

You might be able to tell what they're doing if you look at the access logs of your server.

ahhh! That's interesting (I mean, providing the logs are enabled and that I understand squat of what they tell me, lol).  A Neat idea. Thank you, you have been very helpful!

  10. Thanks, I was more along the lines of preventing forum viewing "guests can see forum" options etc. Yeah, it isn't a logout, I'm new at this and trying to learn, despite my age. I also agree there is no pressing need now, I was just wondering if I ran into problems later, (that I thought were caused by these guests) that blocking them for a few mins from seeing the forums where they've parked themselves might dislodge them. Then I wouldn't need to bother support with the issue. Also I must admit I'm a bit annoyed that they just sit there for days on end (it's a tiny forum!) and I cannot tell what they're up to.

  11. Hello, I've written before about some guest accounts all parked (for weeks) throughout our forum, all from a related IP source. So far, no harm has been done. Still, I am wondering if logging out all guests for a few minutes might be enough to dislodge them. Would this be possible without messing up site indexing etc? How should I best go about it?

I was thinking that, if this works, I'd like to have it ready in case we get more of such traffic in the future.

    Thanks!

  12. Hello,

For new member registrations, our settings require that a full registration form be filled and validation then occurs by email. I have never enabled Admin validation.

    Could contain: Page, Text, File

Why then do I get an admin notification claiming a potential member needs admin validation? This is, btw, the second time this happens.

    Could contain: Text, Page

thanks, and a pleasant day to all.
