This is not even a 3rd party issue. That error is saying that one of your FORUMS (IPS) application files is not compatible. You are missing the $location variable in that specific Forums\Topic class function.

It looks like you have a file from an older version on your server. Try re-uploading a fresh set of files from your client area, and be sure to overwrite everything. Maybe a wrong file owner/permission is preventing the file from being overwritten.

I do not know how to do it exactly and what will be the impact?

Why the support doesn't do it? What is the support included if not this kind of critical issue?

  2. Well,

A forum with thousands of people is not functional full day.

Can't upgrade software, can't do anything after a simple PHP upgrade, no safety net from you're side!

That is very frustrating. .maybe it's not the right platform for me.

  3. By the way, when I am disabling the " forum", i get a UI back.  still think its an external app?

I believe disabling an application - not deleting - is sufficiently enough for doing the upgrade.

    Every thing is disabled already!

Some applications you have installed are not compatible with PHP8, therefore, an upgrade from 7.4 to 8.0 will cause your website to crash. Perfectly normal behavior. You need to investigate which application is not ready for PHP8 before you are able to upgrade. This is not on Invision Community's behalf, but on whoever made an application that doesn't comply with PHP8.

The best practice told me here in IPB is firstly to upgrade the server before the version with the app scanner, well that doesn't work.

    I WIill delete every app...i don't think I have a choice

Can you please explain to me How can i back up some app before removing it?

  5. And regardless of the software upgrade option that I agree is important, why is the forum currently down?

Do you want me to delete all the apps even when disabled?

My forum is down after a simple server upgrade to PHP8, I expect IPB support on this one. You have access to log in.

  6. When i try to do it (update the changed files ) - everything crashes. So i snapshot back.

    Find a solution

Some of the source files for Invision Community have been modified.
    • /var/www/html/applications/calendar/Application.php
    • /var/www/html/applications/calendar/modules/front/calendar/view.php
    • /var/www/html/applications/core/modules/admin/discovery/search.php
    • /var/www/html/applications/core/modules/admin/system/upgrade.php
    • /var/www/html/applications/core/sources/Reports/Report.php
    • /var/www/html/system/Content/Item.php
    • /var/www/html/system/Helpers/CoverPhoto/Controller.php
    • /var/www/html/system/Image/Imagemagick.php
    • /var/www/html/system/Member/Member.php
    • /var/www/html/system/Widget/Widget.php
You should download an unmodified copy of those files and upload them to your server. Once that is done, check if the problem persists.

If you go to the Support area in your Admin Panel, are there any messages there pertaining to the php 8 incompatibility?

    No...

PHP Version 8.0.29 - No issues identified

Disabling will not be enough for some if they are incompatible with PHP 8. If they are incompatible entirely, you would need to upgrade those prior, or remove them prior. I would advise on checking this first of all

I don't understand; you request me to delete all of my apps just to understand which app causing it??

We would need to look further into this for you, however the access details on file appear to be incorrect or missing. Could you please update these details by visiting your client area, selecting the relevant purchase, then clicking "Review/Update Access Information" under the "Stored Access Information" section.

We look forward to further assisting you.

Thank you - I have updated all the login details.

Please assist ASAP, as my prod site is unavailable.  🙏

The issue is that one of your custom apps is not compatible with php 8 and/or the latest version of Ipb. Looking at the error message, it affects the topics.

All my apps and plugin is disabled except forums/calender/system - ALL by invision

  9. HI,

I disabled all of the apps, moved to the default theme, and then upgraded the server again to PHP8.

After the upgrade, the ACP problem indication was gone.

Now i have admin access, but my site is down (BLANK SCREEN); please advise?

    Got error 'PHP message: PHP Fatal error:  Declaration of IPS\\forums\\_Topic::getItemsWithPermission($where = [], $order = null, $limit = 10, $permissionKey = 'read', $includeHiddenItems = IPS\\Content\\Hideable::FILTER_AUTOMATIC, $queryFlags = 0, ?IPS\\Member $member = null, $joinContainer = false, $joinComments = false, $joinReviews = false, $countOnly = false, $joins = null, $skipPermission = false, $joinTags = true, $joinAuthor = true, $joinLastCommenter = true, $showMovedLinks = false) must be compatible with IPS\\Content\\_Item::getItemsWithPermission($where = [], $order = null, $limit = 10, $permissionKey = 'read', $includeHiddenItems = IPS\\Content\\Hideable::FILTER_AUTOMATIC, $queryFlags = 0, ?IPS\\Member $member = null, $joinContainer = false, $joinComments = false, $joinReviews = false, $countOnly = false, $joins = null, $skipPermission = false, $joinTags = true, $joinAuthor = true, $joinLastCommenter = true, $showMovedLinks = false, $location = null) in /var/www/html/applications/forums/sources/Topic/Topic..

  10. Hi

I upgraded my forum PHP 7.4.3 to PHP 8.0.29 ; Forum software is Version 4.7.1, redtag app 1.10.4 (10026)

and the forum crashed because the app doesn't compatible with PHP8 SERVER.

When I reviewed the logs, i saw that the app is one of the incompatible apps.

I want to upgrade the app, buy it block on the marketplace.

    what should i do? @Makoto

If you want a quick and easy way of figuring it out...

You're self-hosted so therefore can use FTP.

    1. Download the /applications/appname and the /plugins folder to your PC (appname = the names of the non-IPS folders for applications you have installed)
    2. Using a text editor such as Notepad++, do a "Find in files"
    3. Use getItemsWithPermission as your search term
    4. Search away

There ya go - found one, contact the author after ensuring you are already running the latest version of that resource.

    Hi,

Thank you, i will try it!

    I am afraid i don't have /applications/appname folder - is it normal?

  13. Update: I rolled back to PHP 7 and everything working again.

Well, I have a lot of apps. some of them are custom and critical apps. It will be a very painful procedure to understand what is the source of the problem.

Is there any way to prevent the forum from totally crashing when upgrading the server to PHP8 and enabling apps one by one?

Maybe i should set up a test env for it.

  14. Let's say I roll back to php7, disable every app, and the upgrade to PHP8 will be successful,

when i am will start to enable them one by one, everything will crash again in some point, and if there is more then one?  sound like an inefficient way to handle this case
