Wow, a tutorial (which is excellent by the way) of which the majority of the content is related to making a copy of 3.4.7 would put you off 4.0? Seems a strange conclusion to me.

Just before I continue reading this. Could I just get this straight in my head. Just so I don't misunderstand here.
You believe that free software has more features than IPS You believe that every feature that every individual asks for should be implemented, regardless of business decisions or not. They should just employ more staff You believe the 7 other individuals (not counting myself), who believe they wouldnt want to see the company work this way, are incorrect and you are the one who is correct? And just to clarify that last point. If we take this as a sample batch of Invisions customers. You believe they should ignore the 7, and instead listen to the 1. And you think that this will somehow be beneficial to Invision as a company?

The support is fantastic, a big thank-you to all the team. I've just flicked back through my tickets and some are over 10 years old! All resolved quickly and professionally.
I really appreciate it, customer support is so important in a product for me, it's why I love IPB. Here's to another 10 years!

i didn't see it mention here - but once you login to 4.0 ACP you should go to System > Support > Choose Something isn't working correctly.
it does some other tests to make sure things are done - like running some database queries, and cleaning caches.

I agree with others regarding the automatic resizing and compression of images when they are uploaded. The main problem that I have (and I believe many others will also) is that the users on my forum are not nessesarily technical people. Therefore with the bringing out of higher and higher resolution images just from phones alone it simply means many users cant upload pictures as they just dont know how to resize them on the computer before trying to upload them. Therefore I want to be able to unrestrict the file size that is allowable on my forum without adding an unbelievably hugh amount of bandwidth. The only way I can see to do this would be for it to rescale and compress images to a compression ratio and maximum scale that I set within the admin CP.
This is something I believe would be extremely powerful as a setting and we know you guys can do it because your geniouses As Lindy already pointed out they didnt say no to it

It is perfectly safe to have the MySQL access details stored in that way. The only way a person can read them is with direct access to your server's filesystem, at which point any encryption would be useless, as they would also have the key to that encryption.

We are not releasing on specific days. We are currently prepping Beta 3 but it will take a bit longer as it includes tons of both bugs fixes and performance improvements we made since upgrading our site here.

Soniceffect reacted to The Jimmo in "Views" count in all IPS apps are fake !
Views are being calculated as should. A "view" is equivalent to when someone views/hits the page, it is NOT a unique pageview. If you, as an admin, require these statistics you should use web analytics software.

Thank you for your feedback. I think we need to lock this now as it's causing more confusion than it's solving.
Yes: thumbnails are generated in IPS4 for large images uploaded. These thumbnails are based on admin-defined settings. Yes: we can certainly enhance all this in a future version and we may do so.

No, with the also requested option to not keep the original, the disk space is significantly reduced. The user uploads a 8 MB picture, and then we get a 50 KB thumbnail and a 250 KB large picture (for example). Perfect!
Keeping the original as option is great however if you have the disk space. Then you can 1.) link to it and 2.) at any time in the future, raise the settings for the large view and generate that from the original image.

Just to clarify in simple terms since there has been a lot of confusion in this topic:
IPS4 does create thumbnails but only if the uploaded image is larger than the maximum upload size. It creates thumbnails up to that size you specify in the AdminCP.
The root of the confusion here was that we had our max size setting here on this site quite high so it looked like no thumbnails were made when indeed they are.

Our thumbnail size here is set to 1000x750

This is the thumbnail dimensions.  The full size image is still stored, but a thumbnail is created at this size and that is what is shown in posts.
