What will happen to statuses once they are deprecated? Will the content just be lost, or will we be able to convert it to another form (like topics)?

Or to a page?

Once statuses are removed, they will simply disappear entirely. Its not something we intend on converting to any other section

Sure. Pay for it and you'll got it.

It would be good if there was some sort of conversion available for when they go away. More than likely those profiles are indexed by Google due to having content.

What someone needs to do, is create a "Status Updates" plugin that can copy the Status Updates in 4.x and then continue it's functionality in 5.0

Do people really use this?

Yes, we do, a lot, but mainly for the site to post external url news items that might be of interest to our members.  We use it like a social media channel, so to speak
