A question about multi-language

Hi all,

Hoped I could get some advice on multi-language communities. For context, we are a global youth charity and use our community to facilitate professional advice and support on a range of different topics. At present, all of our support is in English language only. We use Invision cloud based.

We are currently working on our Spanish brand which is due to launch in Mexico in Q1 2023. This brand has a different brand name, logo and slightly different identity. For year 1, we are hoping to pilot Whatsapp support and Invision-community based, to see where the demand is. Ideally, we'd like to avoid having 2 completely different communities and are exploring ways in which we may be able to merge the 2.

Ideally, we'd like the community to feel native whether you're English or Spanish speaking. Is this solution theoretically possible/are there any case studies or other ways of doing it? We'd ideally have a different theme for Mexico, a different URL and a Spanish language - all 3 automatically load if a member is browsing from Spanish territory. This community would then have a different experience with different forums (perhaps people registering in Spanish are added to a different user group and have different forum viewing privileges?) or alternatively we'd have a Spanish support Club that they are directed to. Any advice as to whether this would even work or if there's a better way of doing it? Would love to hear about how other communities manage multiple-language.

Thanks,

Liam

While you can use a Spanish language pack in order to change the localisation of the software, the rest you will have issues with. It will detect language based on the browser language, you cannot base permissions on that, so would not be able to do different forums for different languages and have them automatically hide based on user. Same goes for the theme. In addition to this, the URL side of things is something you would need 2 licenses for in any case, as your licenses are per URL.

As we are cloud based, is there a way of duplicating our settings/configuration or anything else for the Spanish instance to save time?

I can create a ticket if you would like to talk to our sales team on this to see what we can do for you?

Yes please!

All set. I moved this to our sales teams' inbox so they will be in touch with you via email as soon as they can. There is a small backlog at the moment so there may be a slight delay just a warning 🙂 .
