While we no longer support 3.4 upgrades, you can find instructions on how to do so here https://invisioncommunity.com/4guides/welcome/install-and-upgrade-r259/ If this is not something you wish to take on yourself, there are a few 3rd party providers who offer this as a paid service. What about the members, do not you want to keep them? You can restore the backup file as whole, upgrade your forum to the latest version and then you can delete all the stuff that you do not want to keep anymore and leave the ones that you want to keep.
