Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
MAHMUT ORHAN Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 Hello, I have a wordpress site using the main domain.com I want to connect my invision community Cloud site to my site but I want it to show like domain.com/forum/* Is it possible I can use invision community cloud and connect it to my domain from domain.com/forum/ or I need to make a subdomain like forum.domain.com Thank you for any help.
Randy Calvert Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 DNS resolves to a server (meaning SOMETHING.DOMAIN.COM). It cannot route to a folder. (It's a path on a server, not the server itself). As a result, you would need a subdomain.
MAHMUT ORHAN Posted May 19, 2022 Author Posted May 19, 2022 Yes, I think to be able to do that I need to get a self hosted subscription.
Randy Calvert Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 DNS is typically separate from the hosting itself. You can purchase/manage a domain without hosting at all. (For example just having a domain for email or to have pointers to things like FTP or SSH.)
Solution Jim M Posted May 19, 2022 Solution Posted May 19, 2022 Our Cloud can only support root domains (e.g. example.com) or sub-domains (e.g. community.example.com). It cannot support sub-folders - or in this regard where the root domain lives on another server due to technical restrictions that Randy mentions. Most of our customers who have a main site already on another service or server, generally go the sub-domain route here in our Cloud. Alternatively, if really having that sub-folder, "domain.com/forum/", is what you desire, this will indeed require self-hosting both your main site and our software on the same server. SeNioR- 1
