Makoto Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 (Pending approval) https://github.com/FujiMakoto/ips-gallery-enhancementshttps://github.com/FujiMakoto/ips-gallery-enhancements/releases This outlines some of the strifes I've personally had with the gallery system myself and the changes I've implemented to overcome them. I'm open sourcing the modifications I've made in-case others would like to make use of them. In summary: Please scale images in the gallery better. The current gallery window is really small and it's not really appealing to navigate through because of this, especially when it comes to 4:3 aspect ratio images. Please calm down on the lightbox usage. The lightbox is nice. You did a nice job on it. But you really go way overboard on its usage in the gallery in my opinion. You click on a featured image, you get the lighbox. You go to a category and click on an image, you get the lightbox. You go to an album, you get the lightbox. Please leave it so that the lightbox is just used when clicking on gallery images embedded in posts and/or just a feature members can explicitly toggle to open. Speaking from personal experience, this was widely hated by most members I've communicated with when this change went live, it makes navigating large gallery painful and tedious when you constantly have to close lightbox after lightbox just to get around. On point 2, please do not open the lightbox on the image view page. There's literally no reason to open a lightbox here. It's not convenient, it doesn't show any additional information, it's just there for no reason. I always end up immediately closing out of this when opening a gallery page directly. Please just disable it here. "View full image" should link to the original image, not masked image. This I consider more of a bug. The link that should open the original image in a new tab instead opens the large (scaled) image.

This is a per-group setting already: I see what you're saying, that maybe you want to prevent members from being able to download the original image. In that case, maybe just have the View full image link display the original image if that settings is enabled. At least without the watermark enabled. My argument for this being that a lot of members will download images this way. Having an option to download the image programmatically is nice, but this is not how a lot of users operate in my experience. They'll open the full image in a new tab and save it that way, because this feels more natural to most people. Also, people may just want to view the larger image in a new tab where they can zoom in on their browser and so on. It's kind of pointless to open a scaled image in a new tab.
