Hello everyone.

Here's the deal. I want to buy Downloads and Gallery, but!

I have a Forum, which is on a payed server.

I want to setup a local server (I have very fast connecion) on which would I put all my images or documents to Downloads and Gallery.

Is it possible? If yes, how?

I hope you understand what I want. I already have Forum, but I wanna add Downloads and Gallery, to the same Forum script, but on a different server!

Oh, and can Gallery NOT imprint watermarks on photos? I mean, is it possible to use a watermark, but without imprinting it on a photo?

Thank you very much for your answers.

Best regards, Anton

That isn't an option in this case, our software and its applications must be on the same install/host. So you would have to install gallery and downloads on the same site. The gallery app does support watermarking yes.

OK, I can install them on the same server, but can they use another server for uploaded material?

You didn't understand my question about watermarking - I asked is it possible NOT to imprint it on a photo?

Thanks.

Watermarking is an option, so you can enable or disable it. On storage options, we currently have the following built-in storage options.

I would really, really appreciate if you could explain me more thoroughly what I asked. Listing storage methods doesn't answer my question, or maybe I'm illiterate to understand.

So, again:

Can I use another server for uploaded material?

I don't understand what is a database or file system in this context. Please refer to my initial message where I'm explaining what I want to do. ->

I want to setup a >>>local server<<< (I have very fast connection) on which would I put all my images or documents to Downloads and Gallery. Is that possible?

Thank you in advance.

See my first reply and I’m sorry for not being more clear, I assumed you knew what those options are.

The answer is no, you cannot do what you are asking for.

But why is that a problem? Why I can't install Gallery on one server, and put photos on the other? I mean, you have in your options Amazon S3. Why not give an option for "user based server".

After all, Gallery is just a database, and there is no reason why images couldn't be on another server (as seen with Amazon).

Thanks in advance.

At a technical level, of course images could be stored on another server.

However, from a software POV we would need to know "how" to do that. S3 has a specific protocol for storing (and fetching, deleting, etc.) files which we use to provide integration with S3. What protocol do you want to use to store files on another server? You could simply mount that other server as a network share to your main server, and then specify the "path" to the other server in the file storage settings. This would be a built in manner of storing files on another server.

If you needed to use FTP or similar, however, to move files to another server then that support is not presently available.
