Is there a way to automatically change members avatars from first letter of user name to a defined picture of my choosing?

To clarify, once a member is banned, I'd like the default avatar to be changed for a ban group's avatar.

A group avatar is not something that is supported at this time. However, there looks to be a third party add-on for this:
