WG Mojo Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 We just set up https on our self hosted server, it's working fine but I'm wondering what this means Quote When using https and members post remote links to insecure images then this can cause the page to report as insecure in your browser. This setting, when enabled, will cause the image to be retrieved and then served from the local web server over https instead. This is a toggle option. Does this mean every image displayed on your forum is saved to your server? because that would obviously take a lot of space. Or temporarily saved then deleted?
AndyF Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 I think it is saved permanently on your server, the same way an uploaded attachment would be (AFAIK, I've not actually used this feature myself) The reason is as indicated so it can be 'served' from your server (once the software has grabbed and saved it) via https , avoiding the 'insecure/mixed' browser warning.

In short.....enable the options and any image that is being displayed will be cached locally on the server until the number of days shown have passed, after which they are deleted....until next time they are needed and then downloaded again.

I missed that somehow ( sorry! ) It would have to be cached for a short period in any case otherwise if it was fetched each time, temporarily stored, displayed then deleted the 'local server' would be relatively busy resource wise doing that task I suspect. Having said that 7 days seems sensible. I'm unaware of any legal concerns regarding the storage of others images regarding copyrights and the like though,
