pilotguy Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 Hey everyone, I am trying to embed a reddit video into an article done in Pages. I can't seem to get this to work what-so-ever. Anyone have ideas on how to get this to work? I've tried all of the different EMBED codes that reddit supplies with no luck.
Ramsesx Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 You have to enable html in your acp for your usergroup and add the embed code into the source editor. I just tried this one and it works fine: <blockquote class="reddit-card" data-card-created="1540570325"><a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/youseeingthisfaeces/comments/6mmd5y/how_is_it_spinning_that_fast/?ref=share&ref_source=embed">How is it spinning that fast!?!?</a> from <a href="http://www.reddit.com/r/youseeingthisfaeces">r/youseeingthisfaeces</a></blockquote> <script async src="//embed.redditmedia.com/widgets/platform.js" charset="UTF-8"></script>

This is the result - It's just blank. Code: <blockquote class="reddit-card" data-card-created="1540570930"><a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/comments/9oih2d/guy_dominates_a_2_on_1_fight/">Guy dominates a 2 on 1 fight</a> from <a href="http://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout">r/PublicFreakout</a></blockquote> <script async src="//embed.redditmedia.com/widgets/platform.js" charset="UTF-8"></script>
Ramsesx Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 Curious, it works fine on my article page. Maybe an issue with the javascript on your site? Or a conflict with a plugin.
pilotguy Posted October 26, 2018 Author Posted October 26, 2018 Ok - I bet you it boils down to out-of-date applications or plugins... usually the case. time to troubleshoot some more Weird - It actually shows up briefly and then turns into a blank screen... wtf.
pilotguy Posted October 26, 2018 Author Posted October 26, 2018 According to IPS support Reddit is refusing the connection??
pilotguy Posted October 26, 2018 Author Posted October 26, 2018 So I wanted to return here and share the resolution to this issue (it was indeed an issue) The solution was straight forward but not obvious - For GUESTS or other member profiles, the permission DOWNLOAD ATTACHMENTS must be enabled - This is according to IPS technical support. Also, if it still doesn't work, you may need to be logged into REDDIT for it to function correctly.

If yes, this should be valid on embedded youtube videos too. I am not registered on reddit and I could embed and watch the videos.
Ramsesx Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 Sure, if it works now on your site it's fine.

I was hoping you would follow up on the ticket to let me know if that made a difference, since I was not 100% sure that setting would be the solution. 🙂 (You mentioned it would not display to Guests on your site, but would display if logged in to your site.) Was that permission disabled for Guests? And if so, did enabling it then allow the video to display to Guests?
