htaccess files

I just noticed to today that I had some .htaccess files left over from the v3.4 install which were not compatible with Apache 2.2.

I just wanted to know if there should be an .htaccess for the 'uploads' directory for v4 (or any other directory for that matter? api excluded).

Generally (with a Linux server at least) you'll have one in the suite root directory to deal with friendly URL's amongst other things. Might be one alongside a .htapass (or similar) in the admin directory to password protect it too.

I had a quick look at a (upgraded 3x) board and that retained the .hta file in the uploads directory, its mainly to protect against listing/execution of said contents so personally I'd leave it there if the site is working fine.
