Not sure how long this has been like this but we have borders around the post emoticons using

    border: 1px solid #E2E2E2;
    padding: 1px;
}

 

Other than the fact it doesn't look the best,especially because emoticon backgrounds are usually transparent, but it also effects the line height in the post it's on. can we get a separate rule for this @Rikki

Emoticons don't use that style - perhaps your members are manually adding emoticons as image attachments?
