Echoing a point made here, when a post is reported (in IPS v4) and edited by a moderator the original should still be available to other staff members (moderators) so that they can see and judge the original content for themselves.
If a moderator takes action on reported content and edits a post then there is no "evidence" of the original content for the other staff members to review in the case that a dispute arises. This make resolving such disputes (which are all too frequent) almost impossible because it becomes a "he says, she says" situation. The only solution appears to be for moderators to copy and paste the original post before editing it, which is unnecessary work on a busy forum.
If I'm missing something here and then please let me know.
You can enable edit history (in ACP under posting I think), which allows you to access the old version of the post. However, it would be much easier if the original version was retained in the report so that it can be triaged appropriately.
