Migrating data from 3.4.x to 4.x

Hello.

We have highly customized version of IPB 3.4.6. Many system features were rewritten to suit our needs. To the point where 3.4.6 is not any more desirable to convert to the version 4.x (or probably impossible). But we still want to update forums to 4.x, we know that our features will be lost. But we will rewrite them to be compatible with 4.x engine. We installed version 4.1.7 and we like it.

Question: Is there some tool that can help us to migrate database from our live forums (which are on 3.4.6) to the new ones (which are on 4.1.7 version)?

Hey,

unfortunately, no there isn't. You will have to go the upgrade path. Test the upgrade locally and see if there are major issues.

If you need help, shoot me a PM. :)

Have you tried the upgrader? If core-data of IPB3 ist not modified too much, it may work (most plugins and addons just add fields and tables and don't touch the core-data)

I also migrated some heavy moded 3.x-series  for friends and we got it working.

Off course, you should try this on a copy of your board... you may also try to uninstall some mods/hooks/application before to cleanup the database (just a hint, not a must)

Some more hints for upgrading can be found here:

Thank you for the answer. We are testing the updater, but still I would prefer to start with fresh forum.

Ok, in that case, you will have to wait until IPS releases the Importers for IPS4.

You may try to Import your old IPB3 in a fresh IPB3 (so you have a fresh IPB3-Database) and upgrade to IPS4 from that Point (but as told - these importers are still under development for IPS4 and not yet released and just available for IPB3, so there is no direct way to IPS4 yet, just another hop via IPB3 (but BTW: you should be good in going this route, too))

Can you please give me the link of the official upgrade script?

There is no "upgrade script" as such. You need the IPS 4 files that are available in your client area (https://invisionpower.com/clients/)

Some more information:

If you want to Import your modified IPB3 in a fresh IPB3 (and get rid of the modifications in the database), you need the migrationscript (NOT the upgrader) for the first step, you will find them here: https://www.invisionpower.com/services/migrate -> Get it now

As for IPS4-Upgraders, just download IPS4 from the clientarea, the upgraders are included in the download (after you uploaded all IPS4-files you find them in <uploaddir>/admin/upgrade/ )

Hello,
The upgrade script from 3.4.x to 4.x finished successfully, but after i open newly upgraded forum, i get white screen. How can we debug?

When i open network tab in console debugger of browser i see that server returned status "canceled". There are no errors in PHP log files.

We solved the problem about canceled page. But now login form wont show up.

What can be the problem?

p.s. Standard login handler is enabled in ACP.

We solved this problem also, for some reason if standard login handler is set to display name and email address nothing shows up. But if you set it to email only, all start to work.

Next problem is: custom login handler for some reason does not work, when it try to authorize user it throws error:  Error code: EX0

Any ideas what can it be?

Seriously....you're posting in the product feedback forum and you're not going to get much response (you haven't thus far) to a technical support question if nobody has any interest in the actual subject matter of the thread.

Use the 'peer to peer technical support' forum or open a support ticket if you need assistance.
