Mail Bouncer - Automated Bounce Management

Mail Bouncer is a fully automated app to handle email bounces and spam complaints via 3rd Party Email services SparkPost, SendGrid, Mandrill or Amazon SES/SNS.

  • Hard Bounce If a hard bounce is detected, all email to that user will be instantly disabled, they will be placed into 'validating' status which means that IPS4 will prevent them accessing the community until they have updated their email address.
  • Soft Bounce Soft bounces are counted over a number of days, if they exceed 1 bounce a warning message will be shown, if they exceed 4 bounces it will be converted to a 'hard bounce'
  • Spam reports via Mandrill, SparkPost, SendGrid or Amazon SES/SNS are when a user clicks on 'Spam' in AOL/Gmail/YahooMail etc, this user is blocked from having emails sent to them. The user is presented with a message on every page that tells them that they should update their email preferences instead of marking an email as spam. They are offered a chance to opt-in to emails again, once they opt-in the Mandrill side block is also removed. Removing 'Spam' users from the services reject list may cost a small amount of reputation. To prevent a user exploiting this they are only allowed to opt-in once.
  • Reject Mail Bouncer app will learn your existing reject list as emails are sent to them (this won't hurt your reputation), This allows the app to start telling users to update their email address right away.

This app is a zero-configuration app providing your Mandrill/SparkPost/SendGrid API Key setting is present (zero configuration does not include Amazon SES/SNS).

Amazon SES/SNS

Setting up Amazon SES/SNS is a more involved process, you will be responsible for configuring SNS and ensuring that it is functional and sending data to the Mail Bouncer SNS endpoint (details displayed after app installation).

Requirements

  • You must use Mandrill, SparkPost, SendGrid or Amazon SES Email Services
  • cURL
  • Ability for your server to communicate with 3rd party APIs (external connections)

Support
If you require any support for this product please create a Technical Support ticket in the Client Area. You will need to register an account if you do not already have one. You must supply your IPS Community email address.

Cool ! It's imperative that I test it !

I also hope that a similar solution will be integrated IPB4 eg :-) It seems to me that Mandrill is natively integrated but interactions between IPB and mandrill are limited without the use of such a plugin...

Thank you very much and good day !

This is exactly what I needed to manage bounced emails. Not only does it keep my Mandrill reputation high, but it also allows me to gain members back to my mailing list that may not have realized their emails were no longer active. This is awesome!!!!!

Just wanted to post this because others might have a similar question. Will the inline message conflict with other hooks that are installed, which display errors, announcements, news, or warnings?

I don't believe it should, if you have a plugin that opens a modal on a page load, then there is a small chance a user may see two modals.

Will you be adding this to your store in £, or only here?

For now, I think it will be MP only, generally the most people that buy from my site (which isn't very many) only buy because they don't have an active license.

Please let me know if that user is success, I am willing to buy this apps.

Thanks

I will, I'll come up with something so there's no need for a file edit too.

If you've purchased the file, please follow it, so that you are notified of updates! ( 1.0.1 was just uploaded! )

Is it working on 3.3.4 version ?

Yes, it is working on 3.3.4 version. We had to make the manual file edits but they were easy.

The added bonus is that we send our newsletters using Phplist through Mandrill. So the bounces that came back are also fed into our IP.Board. We had 3 hard bounces reported on Mandrill. We logged in to the board as the users, and sure enough, each one showed the popup that their email had been disabled.

Seems to be working great.

Great, glad to hear that, waiting from stoo2000 to make it official support..

Because I still see

  • Supported Versions: IP.Board 3.4.x

I'll update the supported versions when the file edit isn't required.

Maybe this should be a topic for the Discovery Channel?

If you don't have access to everyone's Mandrill accounts, how in the world do you install an IPB webhook in their Mandrill account?

Is a webhook the "proper" way to get feedback from a Mandrill account? If so, what is the field under 'Sending Options' do:

forward bounce notifications to this address

?

So this isn't a support request per se ... more of a "that's amazing ... how do they do that??" whoa dude kind of question

The fix seems to have too many brackets. Is there any way to test if the bouncer is working?

Hi, if you'd like to submit a support ticket. I can send you the entire file.

Logging into Mandrill and looking at the Webhook page will tell you if notifications are being sent successfully.
