simonb Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I and other forum owners I know are struggling with a new form of spam with members joining and spamming other members unseen by the board owner and moderators. I appreciate I could deny PM until a set number of posts by creating new member groups but this is a lot of work with an established board and I do not want any more member groups. Please consider adding a setting to restrict access to the messenger until a person has X many approved posts or has been a member for X days? Thank you.

I recommend that you use the following mods until an acceptable solution is implemented in IP.Board: http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/5143-stop-spammer-registration/ http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/4588-days-registered-to-post-links-anti-spam-measurement/ http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/4581-number-of-posts-to-post-links-anti-spam-measurement/ http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/4936-extra-recaptcha-protection-details-inside/ http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/3572-number-of-posts-to-send-personal-messages/ http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/5694-enhanced-pm-restrictions/

Aiwa Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 1) Turn on the spam service... Make sure you set the different flags... I have mine set to nuke anyone code 3 or 4... Code 2's go to admin approval, and code 0's and 1's register... 2) Control your new members with auto-promote.. Don't let them use the messenger until they have X posts, or have been a member for X days.

Lase Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 How do I know that this is happening if no one has reported are there any signs I need to look for?

Code 2's go to admin approval, and code 0's and 1's register... I've actually been recommending people do Admin Approval for Code 0 and Timeouts when contacting the spam service (If I forget to renew or the spam service server goes down). That way you still have some defense until the problem is fixed.
