.Ian Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Anyone using this - what results / benefits are you finding? Any issues?
mat206 Posted January 7, 2011 Author Posted January 7, 2011 Anyone using this - what results / benefits are you finding? Any issues? I haven't heard any feedback yet on issues. Basically you'll know it's working if you update your own profile photo and it actually updates within a minute or two instead of 24 hours. Then you'll know it's taking care of purging the cache properly.. I'm using it right now and it's working well but then I'm the author of it so take that with a grain of salt.. everybody's system is different.
Darvil Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I'm having issues. First I followed http://community.invisionpower.com/resources/articles.html/_/server-resource-management/using-maxcdn-as-a-cdn-for-more-performance-with-minimal-effort-r510 but I'm running into issues. For example I am unable to add http://uploads.blahblah.com/ as the temp URL. I can only add uploads.blahblah.com The error I get is 'http://uploads.blahblah.com/' appears to be a DNS hostname but cannot extract TLD part' On the mod, I'm not exactly sure the user ID is. I put in the API key but can't find the user ID anywhere unless its the zone id? I also went ahead with it anyway but of course the files aren't loading. My forum is also in a subdirectory. Any ideas? Thanks

To answer your last question, in the "API" settings the user ID is listed as the "API ID". I'll be sure to correct the wording of the API user in the next update. The API ID should be 4-5 numbers.. First you need to be able to get the initial subdomain set up as http://up.blahblah.com/ (that's step 1) Can you do that? Also, you are going to create TWO pull zones inside of the MaxCDN control panel. The first will be your public pull zone and the second will be your uploads pull zone. If you can at least do that look for the item called "Temporary URL" that is set in the "Summary" tab for your pull zone. You can also enter that URL into the IPS software if you can't get the CNAME records set up correctly. Bear in mind it also takes DNS a while to propagate, so you may run into problems where it doesn't immediately work but everything is actually set up correctly.
Darvil Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 figured out the user ID issue.. that was just me being blind ;) What I don't get is how the content from /public (where the skin files) gets replicated? I don't see anything in the instructions on that. After I change the Image URL path, none of the images load. I used firebug and I see that these files don't exist on my cdn.. not sure whats going on. I know I'm making a mistake but I just can't see any :(
Darvil Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Hey mat206, I've done all that including the A recording and the CNAME. I did them yesterday. They have been resolving since this morning.
Darvil Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I think I've managed to resolve this but I'm not exactly sure how accurate. The stats on maxcdn seem to indicate its working fine though. First in the maxcdn integration for the public URL I had to put in "http://public.blahblah.net/forum/public/" for image URL I put in "http://public.blahblah.net/forum/" and upload URL "http://uploads.blahblah.net/" I updated avatar and it instantly changed. I used " " to check.
Zhana Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 http://uploads.mysite.com/ should point to http://mysite.com or http://public.blahblah.net/forum/public/ Thank you.
Zhana Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Uploads are working for me. However not the public area.
Zhana Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Another question, is there any way to use CDN for IP.Downloads? Thank you.
Gaffney Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I'm having problems with your app, it stops my shoutbox and status updates from working, you can't enter anything, you can type but when you press enter nothing happens. I set the images url to: http://public.mysite.netdna-cdn.comMade a subdomain: http://public.mysite.com/public2 Added the cname for it: public.mysite.netdna-cdn.com I redone my css images to: I added the api key etc, it just doesn't enter, have you tested it with the shoutbox ? The shoutbox has two js scripts in the public folder: shoutbox.ajax shoutbox It's probably these that aren't working
Ambar Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Any one have this working and would lend a hand setting up ? like to try it Thanks Dean
blair Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I have it working. Easy setup, works great. Worth $15. Not sure how easy it would be, but the only change I can recommend is support for the download manager. Lots of thumbnails to load.
Ambar Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Great can I have the trace address for your site like to see the cnames to compare
Ambar Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 For everyone interested in this, as you should be, great way to go if you can... After stumbling around I believe I have my site on the MaxCDN arabianbreeders.net Let me know what you think if anything as far as speed... I will try to go over my notes and help others get it up and running..
Ambar Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Thank for the feed back, still an issue I am trying to fix ...
Gaffney Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Anyway to make it so this doesn't use any mods that use ajax ? MaxCDN doesn't support ajax js files eg The shoutbox.
Ambar Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I would ask the MaxCDN tech support. depending on who you get they might be able to help ? They have live chat online right to tech support Dean just asked them Welcome to MaxCDN. A representative will be with you shortly. You are now chatting with Fred M me: hi Fred M: Hello me: question me: Anyway to make it so this doesn't use any mods that use ajax ? I'm probably better contacting the person who made the mod. Would the gzip function possibly be stopping the ajax from working ? Regards, JoshHello Josh, I suspect the ajax updates are not working because of the caching, as the JS file is cached, not updates will be pushed. I suggest you don't use CDN for the Ajax Update file, but it is always a great idea to contact the mod developer for prompt assistance :-) I tried it again, same issue ajax fast reply, Shoutbox and anything else with ajax doesn't work.
