Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
DamianSharpe Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Since I was a vBulletin user, I was used to a dedicated Resources website. So I was trolling the net and saw this: http://www.invisionpower.org/ It got me thinking... Why does Invision Services not have a dedicated mods website? I love IPB, and everything with it, but the mod section is kind of lacking. Thanks...
Management Charles Posted June 9, 2010 Management Posted June 9, 2010 We have a resources section on this site and a whole resources sub category of the forums. We think it easier to have everything in one place rather than making people go to many sites.
Chris T Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Whats wrong with this? http://community.invisionpower.com/resources/community.html
Bartosz.Misiak Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 And http://community.invisionpower.com/files :)
Michael Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I love IPB, and everything with it, but the mod section is kind of lacking. What else would you like to see the Resources site offer?
DamianSharpe Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 I agree with both of you, but I was so used to having a dedicated group of moderators and a great system for every mod. Plus I believe that having a dedicated one will reduce less mistake on IPS. When I bough a licence, it has taken me one month to figure out the mods are here in the forums.
DamianSharpe Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 What else would you like to see the Resources site offer? Well first of all when I first bought my licence, there was no "Resources" tab. Now there is and I am very happy. I would just like to see a better system of finding mods, and a better modding community. In the way of modifications, I would like to see an app thats like the vBExperience. That was epic in the vB days, but I would love to see it here.
Michael Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I would just like to see a better system of finding mods, and a better modding community. You can use the search box on the top of every page to search for items in the Community Downloads section, that's the way to find mods. How specifically would you suggest that be improved? As far as there being a 'better' modding community, again, specifically, how would you suggest that be improved? It's a nice goal to want a better community, but we need something to go on to get there.
DamianSharpe Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 Maybe offer special forums for coders and app creators? I would like to see more people actively creating things to go with IP.Board.
Management Charles Posted June 9, 2010 Management Posted June 9, 2010 Maybe offer special forums for coders and app creators? I would like to see more people actively creating things to go with IP.Board. We already have that :)
DamianSharpe Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 I mean dedicated forums just for them, not for the general community.
.Ian Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 You can use the search box on the top of every page to search for items in the Community Downloads section, that's the way to find mods. How specifically would you suggest that be improved? not at the moment, the search appears to not be working too well. ;) For example, I have been trying to find your article on common SQL queries but I cannot find it at all - despite searching and trying to navigate through resources and it is nowhere to be found. It doesn't even appear under your name as you are showing zero items under resources. Do you have a link to it?
Alex Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I mean dedicated forums just for them, not for the general community. That is what Charles was saying, there are dedicated forums for people who contribute to the community.
CalendarOfUpdates Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 not at the moment, the search appears to not be working too well. ;) For example, I have been trying to find your article on common SQL queries but I cannot find it at all - despite searching and trying to navigate through resources and it is nowhere to be found. DamianSharpe Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 O well I got killed trying. I just want to see more free mods :P. Thanks all for your input!

I'm not sure where the article has gotten to on this site, the articles here may have been reorganized since I submitted it. You can find that article on my site here: http://www.codersrefuge.com/tutorials/article/20-quick-queries-to-set-default-values-on-the-my-settings-pages/ O well I got killed trying. I just want to see more free mods :P. Thanks all for your input! We all want more free mods, there's nothing wrong with wanting that. :) Have you considered starting to get into modding yourself? That's where the mod community comes from: third party folks like yourself who decide to just start modding.
DamianSharpe Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 I am a PHP, HTML and CSS coder that is VERY interested in becoming a new modder. Yes I am thinking about it. I have a great idea. Just how would one get started? How could I make a app and achieve my goal?

Just how would one get started? How could I make a app and achieve my goal? this would be a good place to start: http://community.invisionpower.com/resources/documentation/index.html?
DamianSharpe Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 @Jaggi Thanks for the Link! I hope I can get into modding. It looks to be very rewarding.
.Ian Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I'm not sure where the article has gotten to on this site, the articles here may have been reorganized since I submitted it. You can find that article on my site here: http://www.codersref...settings-pages/ Thanks - found it on your site as well in the end - just wasn't sure if they were the same. Mind you it didn't have the query in anyway in the end LOL Mind you if you cannot find your own articles it does not bode well for us mere mortals ;) Anyway - buying your tutorials today - going to give it a shot ;)
SkimPappa Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I think this is one of the big problems with this IPB site. A very good amount of tutorials, modding, skinning, mods, and tips are available on sites made by staff & the resource teams rather then combining all the good knowledge into one spot. Here. But, I guess since those areas are not available to the public on this site that is a good thing. ugg
