Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Powerboat Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Hi folks, In the last week or so I converted the first of several VB powered forums that I own from VB to IPB. Just a short note to say how impressed that I have been with the installation and support services form IPB on what has been a very steep learning curve for an old VB user. I have focussed for the last week on getting my first forum as near to perfect as I can and we are very nearly there. I have been particularly impressed with the very friendly, very patient and very human nature of the IPB support staff who I felt were very genuinely anxious to engage with me on a personal to solve issues and get my new forums and suite just right. The speed of response time and their tolerance (many issues were actually me learning about the new system!) were quite impressive. I have just bought another two full suites and will be buying more in coming weeks. The good news for the IPB support team is that I have learnt from you all ! Well done again guys! Great products and great people. It has been a pleasure doing business with you all. Kind regards, Stuart
.Ian Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Welcome Stuart :) Enjoy IPB :) Don't forget to add your sites to the Directory above - http://community.invisionpower.com/links/ once converted :)
Mark Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Thanks for the positive feedback Stuart - great to hear you're enjoying your purchase. If there's anything else we can do for you - please let us know :)
Powerboat Posted June 7, 2010 Author Posted June 7, 2010 Hi Folks, Thanks for the welcome. Mark, as a "Non Techie" is it possible for me to pay you guys for some simple Content based customisation to replace the old landing page we had for our forums at www.powerboat.ie? I don't mind paying extra. It would probably take you guys an hour to do what would take me trying to brief an Irish developer unfamiliar with IP several days.... I'm also looking for some simple non standard tweaks such as Visitors in the last 24 hours etc. I would not expect these to fall into the normal support system. I'd like to set up a standard format that I can then replicate on the next forums I convert over to IP. PM me to discuss or with a number I can call? It would be great to get a quick one stop shop. Kind regards, Stuart
AndyF Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Thank you for your positive feedback :) Regarding a 'visitors in the last 24hours' there is a 'Members Online Today' hook you can use, this is very easy to install: You simply upload one file (via the ACP), configure its settings as preferred and you are done. You can find it here and its support topic here
Powerboat Posted June 7, 2010 Author Posted June 7, 2010 Hi Andy, Could you show me the bread crumb path for the file upload? I had a look in Applications & Modules * Manage Applications & Modules * Manage Hooks but can't find a browse file button to upload the downloaded file from my laptop?? I was in the manage hooks section and successfully added pre installed but inactive hooks (Top Poster and Calendar) but although I could see an add hooks section, I could not see where to browse and upload the file.... I tried Import XML file but got a very scary error message! Apologies if this is turning into thread drift. Kind regards Stuart
Logan Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Hi Stuart, Thank you for the feedback! It has been very nice working with you. To upload a hook, you go to your Admin CP --> Manage Hooks --> At the very bottom you'll see a text field and a browse button. Download the mod here: http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/2034-im-members-online-today-100/ --> Unzip --> Inside the folder structure you'll see membersOnlineToday.xml and ReadMe.html --> From the AdminCP browse to that XML file on your computer, and then upload. If you are getting any errors, please submit a ticket and we'll take a look for you :) Logan
Powerboat Posted June 7, 2010 Author Posted June 7, 2010 Cheers Logan, (Logan could write a book about how non techie I am !) Logan, Could you also check if someone could come back to me on the customisation question? or should I submit a ticket via sales? I'll have a go at the hook thingy ! Thanks again folks, Kind regards, Stuart
Powerboat Posted June 7, 2010 Author Posted June 7, 2010 Thanks Logan, I've done all that and all seemed to go well. The problem was me not knowing to extract the xml file for upload !! No sign of the mod appearing on the forums yet..... Just heading out now. I'll check when I get back in case it takes a few minutes to load Kind regards, Stuart
bfarber Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Hello, Regarding custom work, you can email sales@invisionpower.com. We do take on some work from time to time, but if we are too busy right now (which is a possibility, given that we have just released a major version) we can usually refer you to some people we know take on custom projects. :)
