Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
dfadmin Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I am not sure if it hass been brought up before, but I think it would be a nice feature if users were allowed to toggle and rearrange their own sidebar configuration out of the available sidebar plugins installed. However I am not sure how big the effort would be to implement that kind of feature? Is it within the realm of the possible or would it require too many code changes / cpu time?
Connor T Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 It would be quite cool. As the administrator you could limit some boxes that could not be removed, and then allow the end user to add the reputation box one if they want, and remove some of the ones they don't use. I never thought of it, but I agree.

I wondered the same thing actually. It would be really need for them to customize which features they want via profile settings. Also, I know on vB they have the sidebar as it's own app that you can rearrange and edit easily. I find it very helpful using the block system for that because it only takes a second to edit the sidebar if I want just a plain block there or if I want to change the way each one looks or the options it has instead of going into the code and doing it manually.. but that's just me xD

I like the idea. I like the way it is now with the ability to show/hide areas, but how about now letting users add/remove areas as well?
Adriano Faria Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 I don't know if I misunderstood, but in 3.1.0 you can expand/collapse each sidebar block: It's already 'installed' here on IPS.

I think he wanted to actually wanted users to be able to remove what they did not want, and reconfigure how each is aligned.
dfadmin Posted April 17, 2010 Author Posted April 17, 2010 I think he wanted to actually wanted users to be able to remove what they did not want, and reconfigure how each is aligned. Indeed, however I wrote this before really taking a closer look at the 3.1 version running here. Having the user choose in Profile Settings would be a more complicated solution (to code and for the user to use) I assume, I am pretty happy with the 3.1 handling. There's of course the benefit of quickly toggling the sidebar element for a short look. Only thing that could be added is an alignment function, as in changing the order of the elements on a per user basis. But maybe that is already to come in 3.1.1
