This is what I recommend:

Do a Google search on each module and find out what each one of them are. If it seems like something that would be helpful, keep it. If not, remove it. A few of these modules have to do with rewriting url's, compressing output to the client (gzip, deflate), and caching files to speed up requests. Removing modules blindly, even if it's recommended for WordPress, is not such a good idea. Getting an understanding of what each module is will help you in the short and long term.

One thing to recommend is using FastCGI over mod_php. There is a short video that I found somewhere a while back that explains why fast cgi is better for performace verses mod_php... don't know where it is now. The sum up version is this: With mod_php (and Apache module, like those you listed above) PHP and all it's plugins are loaded into memory for every Apache request. This includes images and other non-php files as well even though PHP is not being used. This is not memory friendly. FastCGI is a service that Apache can hand php requests off to, which means that other requets like images, css files, and javascript files do not load PHP into memory. Definietly something you should look into.

I have looked into FastCGI, the problem is that there is not so much information regarding Arch Linux. If so, I need to edit some to make it work.
However, thank you for your suggestions :D Much appreciated!

Regardless of what you have, I find that mod_fcgid is incredibly easy to get working. If you've compiled Apache before you literally copy the mod_fcgid source tree on top of Apache and run "./buildconf". Then you compile Apache like you normally would with the "--enable-fcgid" option in your ./configure options.

And assuming you've compiled PHP5 with the "--enable-fastcgi" option in it's ./configure, you can add this to Apache's configuration:

<Files ~ (.php)>

Options +ExecCGI

</Files>

AddHandler fcgid-script .php

FCGIWrapper /usr/local/bin/php-cgi .php

There may be some things you want to additionally configure, but that's how you'd get it working on a base install.

I already have FastCGI installed and working in Apache (use it for an ad-management app for another site).

Would this work for just pushing .php scripts at FastCGI - if I plonk it at the end of apache2.conf?

<Files ~ (.php)>
Options +ExecCGI
AddHandler fcgid-script .php
FCGIWrapper /usr/bin/php-cgi .php
</Files>

Cheers,
Shaun :D
