SecondSight Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Hello ! :) I've noticed a "high" server load (5) and slowness on my board. Then the board no longer responded and I got a 404 error page. Then I could reach the board again. Wondering if this was normal or not, I went in WHM and looked at Apache status and I saw this :Current Time: Tuesday, 19-Feb-2008 08:47:42 CST Restart Time: Tuesday, 19-Feb-2008 08:30:01 CST Parent Server Generation: 270 Server uptime: 17 minutes 41 seconds Does it mean the server restarted ? Thank you ! :)
SecondSight Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Now I have this : Current Time: Tuesday, 19-Feb-2008 11:26:58 CST Restart Time: Tuesday, 19-Feb-2008 10:30:01 CST Parent Server Generation: 273 Server uptime: 56 minutes 57 seconds EDIT : It seems like it restarts each hour :Current Time: Tuesday, 19-Feb-2008 11:31:32 CST Restart Time: Tuesday, 19-Feb-2008 11:30:03 CST Parent Server Generation: 274 Server uptime: 1 minute 29 seconds What do you think of it ? Thank you ! :)
BlakeC Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Looks like apache is restarting hourly on your server. You might want to check your cron to see if there are any apache restarts in there.
SecondSight Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 OK - I'm going to open a ticket then, because I'm not very conversant with all this. Thank you ! :)
rct2·com Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 If there is a cron entry to restart your Apache, and your host has no explanation, I suggest you run a 'rootkit hunter' on the server.
bfarber Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Random restarts are fun though! It adds a little excitement to your day. Will my server be up? Is apache restarting now? Let's see!
rct2·com Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 If there's a cron entry, it's also a sign of an IRC spambot :(
