Brandon C Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Your definition of 'fairly serious' is not the same as IPS's. It may be very serious to you, but this situation is not something that's going to occur for 99% of IPB users. The reason I believe it's important to envonge is because he stated that he "lost hundreds of dollars and had a few chargebacks" because of it from the bug report he linked. However, I do view Michael's point that there seems to be a misinterpretation of the word 'serious' from the context that a member may take it vs. the context that IPS may take it, and IPS must take that into consideration as well (whether or not it's affecting a massive amount of users, and the level of severity of the bug). They can then make an informed decision based upon that, along with other factors to evaluate wherher it is 'serious' enough to merit a fix immediately, or if it can be put on the backburner to be fixed at a later date.
FrostedPopTart Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 I believe that IPS does a fair enough job of weighting the severity of each bug report based on the complexity of the server setup and the operating system(s) of the user(s) involved, plus the people who the bug(s) is(are) most likely to affect; plus several factors (eg. does it affect only IE or Firefox too? Is it a SQL error that prevents the board from running or a simple missing closing HTML tag? Is it a security issue? etc etc...) Of course I am not speaking on behalf of IPS, just stating my own $0.02. :)
Mattador Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Luke, but who not use html editor cant know if a bug is important or not if not use that features. its obviously that if i not use html i say ipb work perfectly. But i've this bug and for me is important, patient??? I'am waiting since 3 months. I think that i've patient.
alj Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 i'm completly agree with mattador we need fast patch don for ipb not only that bec i have all Community Suite we not asking for new Features and it will take time to do it the only thing is to resolve problem and put patch for that that's all
bfarber Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 I'm afraid it's not as simple as just "solving the problem and releasing a patch" - there can be dozens of bugs to fix, and sometimes some (like HTML editing) are much more involved than others. Additionally, the patches then have to be properly tested. We are working on the next release, I assure you. We can't rush it however, just to get it out to say we did - if it breaks, that does no one any good.
Jason H Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 I do agree that a more frequent release schedule would be nice, maybe with major updates coming several times a year. We should get releases just as often as the open source projects. But coming in here and demanding that they release a new version just because "you pay for it" isn't going to do anything. We all pay for it.Someone please dig up all the messages raising hell about the update-a-month that happened with IPB 2.1.x.."Too many updates.. I'm tired of redoing my mods.."
RawkBob Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Someone please dig up all the messages raising hell about the update-a-month that happened with IPB 2.1.x.."Too many updates.. I'm tired of redoing my mods.."It's so true, but as they say "you can't please all of the people all of the time" or something along those lines.IPS are doing well to please both parties to a certain level by provifing bug fixes in the client centre for the easier to patch bugs.
Mattador Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Someone please dig up all the messages raising hell about the update-a-month that happened with IPB 2.1.x.."Too many updates.. I'm tired of redoing my mods.."There is only a problem, them if not want install the patch and not lost the mods can do that while if i want a ipb that work with html, i cant do it.And another, MODS not are in ipb but is a plus.BTW i'll wait..... i cant do more...
FrostedPopTart Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Someone please dig up all the messages raising hell about the update-a-month that happened with IPB 2.1.x.."Too many updates.. I'm tired of redoing my mods.." I remember that like it was yesterday. I'm really only waiting on one important (to me) fix in IPB 2.3.2 (and one in Gallery), the rest don't matter that much to me really. I'm not going to sit here and post "OMG u suk hurree up n post da link 2 IPB 2.3.2 now or else u won't here da nd of it from meeee!!!111oneoneone" I have a lot of patience when it comes to things like this, as some might know.

I need this for my site, its indispensable. You have your requirement i've mine.I not want a release NOW and not said that ipb is a poor company, only said that with my version actually i've big problem for that bug, and 3 monthis is a long time.STOP.Now u tell me why i cant say that... lol, or u think that a company only because say that must wait, i must stay in silence??? I am not passive.BTW i said all, now i wait only ipb....
riven3d Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 you know they said once every time somebody starts demanding a release that they will just push it back a few more days.quit talking, when it comes out it comes out.Whats gonna happen if they put it out and it doesnt fix your issue? your gonna come back here and complain on how it wasnt fixed, so if you would wait they can insure everything is fixed correctly.
Rοb Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Are we there yet?Are we there yet?Are we there yet?Mum, are we there yet?Are we there yet?Are we there yet?Muuuummmmmmmmm??!!
bfarber Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 I think the point of the topic has been made. As I've stated before, we're working on it. It will be out as soon as we can reasonably do so.In the mean time, I'd really rather spend my time working on the release than responding to topics about when it will be released. :) I'm much more productive that way.
