AndyF Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Minor suggestion but it seems to make sense :) I think when a specific forum is set to read only (in the forum management in the acp), the button should not show when viewing the forum as it serves no purpose and can confuse new members sometimes.I dont think this would be too difficult to do, possibly with some conditions (maybe even in the skin) , the other idea i had about it was to make it not clickable (same as normal members cannot click the closed button) , but that would take more work and may still confuse.
AndyF Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Is this a new options for the management? Not 100% sure what you mean  Its a suggestion / consideration for a small change for the next / new version :)
Flat_ Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 I agree, it makes no sense to show "new topic" button and then get redirected to an error message !
Jaggi Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 i kinda agree but it does save confusion cus i'd be more confused thinking where the hell is the new topic button which i'm used to seeing. So maybe replace it with a readonly text'd button or provide a easy to see notification... or just leave it how it is.
Rοb Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 I remember this topic being discussed a while back and i think the general opinion was that the button should be replaced with a "greyed-out" version and made unclickable. The same should happen for the "Reply" button in locked topics (for those without reply permissions of course).
Rikki Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 I agree, it makes no sense to show "new topic" button and then get redirected to an error message !Actually, it makes perfect sense. If the New Topic/Add Reply buttons weren't there, new users would come to the board and there'd be no indication at all how they could post a message. By having the buttons available, it's clear how you can post a message - then clicking it will ask you to log in before posting. If you get a popup message in your operating system, the choices that aren't available don't disappear, they're just faded out to indicate you can't use them right now. This is essentially the same thing, although the implementation is a little different.

Does it still make sense to display this "New topic" button ?
