Cooltad Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 +1 Green would be the logical choice. Sure it's ok for people familiar with the board, but first time visitors are more likely to recognise that green = on. The offline gif can stay the same.
Millar Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Well, the way i've thought of it, it's not red for the online icon, just lit up. So when your online your lit up which makes perfect sense, no need to change..

WoLeRiNe` Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Its something like the traffic signal lights, green is ok ok, go, ...red means stop, off.....Which is universally understood. So why resist if thats notgonna hurt. Even for the color blind, green wont hurt. You have reason!
Microo Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Well, if you all insist so much here I created a Green for online... You can copy the image to your PC and put it on your board, or also IPS could use it for the online if they wish so ;)Cheers,BrianImage:Ps: I think it's good the way it is "the one for offline" Don't need of using RED...
Management Charles Posted October 8, 2006 Management Posted October 8, 2006 I don't think red vs. green is a good idea to indicate anything. Too many people are color blind or at least color challenged.
Sinistra Sensei Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 I don't see the big deal for online and for offline. No offense if anyone can't tell the difference between the 2 they really shouldn't be on the net. They have the image greyed out as to be not there so Duh thats a no brainier
Cool Surfer Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 I don't think red vs. green is a good idea to indicate anything. Too many people are color blind or at least color challenged.I think it is not a bad thing to not accept a better idea or rectify something for goodthan just shrugging off the topic by saying that people are color blind. Then there are lots of things that can be over looked by saying .... oh people in general arenot security conscious, so no need to enhance security features. Let it be like this...Then there is no need to bring out newer releases.

Right here in this topic a few have said they are unable to see the differences. So why change something from how it is now (everyone can tell) to a new scheme in which many cannot?
TestingSomething Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Another way could be have no image at all when offline, but have one when online. But it's pretty good as it is,. and green just will look too bad.
Priest Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Why is this such an issue? Green when they are online, and Grey when they are not. It's that simple. Or keep it how it is now, I don't really care as long as Grey represents being offline and some other color represents being online. >_< -p-

GerryMc Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 All you have to do is find yourself 2 Icons to the colours you prefer, name them the same as the ones on your board, then upload them to your style_images directory and you have your icons changed SO SIMPLE.
Keven Fox Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 It'd be cool to choose like blue for males and pink for females.
TestingSomething Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 It'd be cool to choose like blue for males and pink for females.Yeah I thought about that too, but those icons are already in the menu itself. It may be good to do it that way though.
MasumX Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 It'd be cool to choose like blue for males and pink for females.+1

icedawg Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 A lot of people are color blind though :) I for one can't tell the difference so I would prefer not to have red and green color indicators. Right here in this topic a few have said they are unable to see the differences. So why change something from how it is now (everyone can tell) to a new scheme in which many cannot?Several of us have addressed this--and backed up with logical argument--by suggesting the offline icon be left just as it is (i.e. faded grey), but the online icon should be green. If one wants to ignore the connotations ascribed to red (and, vis-a-vis, green) then one shouldn't use either, and certainly not one to in fact represent its opposite meaning. Clearly it wasn't originally decided that the person's shirt's colour itself was to represent the online status; rather, just the brightening of the image in general. Given my argument, however, an oversight has been made.but whatever. la la la.
.Sephiroth. Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Personally, I preferred it the old 2.0.x and 2.1.x way, with the online/offline indicator being a simple button with the text "On" and "Off", and I'll probably be making a change like that to the 2.2 version of the skin I have to make when 2.2 comes out. It's really no big deal. *shrugs*
Cool Surfer Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Ya looks wise, 2.0 was the best and fastest to load, even on a slow connection.
Canadian Hotdogman Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I think it should default the way it is, and the person can change it themselves if they want to.
