Quillz Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 Unlikely. Orange is the standard.Orange may be the standard, but what's to stop someone from re-coloring the icon?
Mat Barrie Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 Orange may be the standard, but what's to stop someone from re-coloring the icon?Sanity ;). Never underestimate some users. Even something so small as a colour change could make it unrecognisable for some people.
Black Prowler Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 rediculous...I know what it is and so does everyone else on my site...and if they don't then they don't know what rss means ;)
Mat Barrie Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 ridiculous...I know what it is and so does everyone else on my site...and if they don't then they don't know what rss means ;)Yes, but you know some users ;)
Mesmer Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 Unlikely. Orange is the standard. From http://feedicons.com/CustomizeNot a fan of orange? Download the package and customize the icon to your liking. It is believed that as a symbol, the feed icon is recognizable enough that it doesn't need to be restricted to one colour.
Keith J. Kacin Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 If you think the icon is too big, you are free to switch it out with the one in the Admin CP:http://forums.invisionpower.com/skin_acp/I.../images/rss.pngOr download your own from feedicons.com, or another website.
krang Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 I'll take the new but maybe I'll write "RSS" as watermark over it so that everyone can recognize it.
Michael P Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 I know the new one is the standard, but even with the old one, alot of people didnt know what it was. They would click it and select one of the feeds and see an XML document - doesnt make a lot of sence!I'd like to see the feeds given some style like the BBC ones, so when someone clicks on it, it tells them all about the feed, and how to use it. Or at least some more help documents by default. It's all well and good providing users with new features, (RSS export is relatively new, and things like the new profile) without documenting them from a user perspective.
.Timmy Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 It's a tad too big. Maybe two or three pixels smaller will do fine?
Millar Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 I like it, makes it stand out so it's easy enough to find..
Keith J. Kacin Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 Where is the new RSS icon?Near the bottom of the page, next to the skin select drop-down.
Michael Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 I really think they do need to decrease the size of it a bit, at least make it the same size as the standard RSS icon in IE7. It would look more natural to me if it were roughly the same height as the skin dropdown that it's sitting right beside.
Keith J. Kacin Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 I personally think it is a good size how it is. Mostly because it perfectly fits within the footer bar without stretching anything at all.But then again, it is up to personal preference.Thankfully, it is just a single image. So the customer can change it to whatever they would like. :) The feedicons.com site even gives you a .psd file to edit it how you want.
princetontiger Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Oh, yeah, had to clear my cache to see it.

princetontiger Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 RSS icon should be a bit smaller, but other than that it looks great.
Keith J. Kacin Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Not when you have the debug information turned off, which is turned off by default.Even so, I have tested it with it off. It does not stretch it out too much.Using an extension in Firefox to resize images, the current RSS icon is literally 4 pixels larger than the skin drop down. I really don't see a reason to change it to save 4 pixels. And those 4 pixels only come into account when debug info is off.And when logged in as a guest, it is still not that bad. Again, it is just an image. People are free to change it. :)
Cool Surfer Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 I think if it is of the size of icons just above it, it would suffice ==============Icons of these, just above rss icon.New Posts New RepliesNo New Posts No New RepliesHot topic Hot Topic (New)No new Hot Topic (No New) Poll Poll (New)No new votes Poll (No New)Closed Locked TopicMoved Moved Topic===============
Mark Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 On my site, I have a smaller version (), but I think that is too small, while the one here is too big.Perhaps a middle sized one could be created?Edit: This is a good size: (16x16)
princetontiger Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 The size is growing on me... it actually looks pretty nice.
