Cooltad Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Has the "card" feature been removed from 2.2? I can't see it here anymore.
Guest Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I must admit I never even used the card feature in 2.1, what is it good for?
Management Matt Posted September 20, 2006 Management Posted September 20, 2006 Yes, it's been removed. We felt that the new drop down (when you click on a member's name in a topic) pretty much did the job of the profile card.
Cooltad Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I never thought much of it anyway, just curious :)
Management Matt Posted September 20, 2006 Management Posted September 20, 2006 And that's why it was removed. :D
Quillz Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 And that's why it was removed. :DWell, the postbit drop-down does seems much more convenient. However, the drop-down now prevents you from quickly visiting a member's profile. You must now hover prompt over the user name and then manually select "view public profile."
Cooltad Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 It does add an extra click to get to the profile but it's worth it for less clutter. I guess it can always be moded in the templates.
lupin84 Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Hurrah! To this day I don't know a soul that had a use for the card. :)

TestingSomething Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I used card just because I had a commenting type mod in it, but since profile has comments, there is no point for it.
Cooltad Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Ah thanks for the tip Keith, I never would have know this was possible!
.Cameron Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I noticed it had disappeared but I didn't take any notice becuase of the much-improved profile portal. :D
Cooltad Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Actually regarding the drop-down menu and the extra click to get to the profile page, would it be practical to link the members avatar to the users profile page as well as keeping the middle-click on the username? Just a though as vB already has this feature.
TestingSomething Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Only thing I dont like about avatar clicking is then I would think the avatars with sound wouldnt work. (where you click them to start their sound).
Cooltad Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Sound in an avatar? Is that using flash or something?
TestingSomething Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 yeah. Not that many use them. Plus I wouldnt give people permission to, to begin with. I once used one on my own forum though. lol
Κeith Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I used the card a few times, but clicking the url in the card opened in a new tab in the little card pop up. >_<I stopped using it shortly after.

Personally, this is how I use to have it on my board before the 2.1.x days, and now I have a reason to revert to it.
TCWT Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Yeah, clicking the members avatar should bring you directly to their profile, 1 less click :)Also, there should be a tooltip when you roll your mosue over the online/offline status indicator. Some may not know what those icons mean.
Guest Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Yeah, clicking the members avatar should bring you directly to their profile, 1 less click :)I like that suggestion. :)
Keith J. Kacin Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 What about if your forum has enabled Flash avatars?
Guest Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 What about if your forum has enabled Flash avatars?then you probably won't be able to intercept the click, but does that matter if it works for the regular image ones?
=Charles Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Even more so now than before, you should be able to right click on the drop down menus when using Firefox. I often Ctrl+Left Click to open links in new tabs, but that is not possible to any more in order to open someone's profile from the topic view.Apart from that issue, the changes are more major than I was expecting! I think I like them, but they're going to take some getting used to. :D
Κeith Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 then you probably won't be able to intercept the click, but does that matter if it works for the regular image ones?Yes.
