Antony Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 I'd like to see both the favicon included with each download removed and the "(Powered by Invision Power Board)" in every page title removed. I understand that the Favicon spreads your company logo around a bit, and the title helps increase your search engine rank. But, I do think that it makes what could be a very easy upgrade somewhat of an annoyance. It might sound lazy of me that I cannot delete a favicon and edit a PHP file, but it would make my life that bit easier. :)Of course I understand and accept completly if IPS doesn't wish to do this. :)
Guest Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 I agree about the favicon, I don't mind the powered by invision power board (in fact when it wasn't there I would add that in myself :))
Antony Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 I just feel it isn't helping my search engine rankings nor the professional image of my site to have "(Powered by Invision Power Board)" in the title. Perhaps a compromise solution would be to have it in the base board but as an AdminCP setting that defaulted to on. Then, once I turn it off when I upgrade it won't revert back to showing it.
Advanced_Guest Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 there was already answer that option to remove "powered by " will be in ipb 2.2.and it is easy to change favicon. just make new one and put to same spot or just remove old one.

Dlf Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 If I remember rightly, the copy write is illegal to remove, and will get your sites closed UNLESS you pay $275 to 'legally' remove it.
Dark Phantom Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 If I remember rightly, the copy write is illegal to remove, and will get your sites closed UNLESS you pay $275 to 'legally' remove it.You can remove the title text but not the copyright. You have always been able to remove the title text.
Millar Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 It should be a general setting, to be able to change the "Powered By.." text in the settings.
eyedam Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I agree about favicon. It really should be an icon/logo specific to the site not the forum engine the site is using (at the moment). I understand that it's not hard to not upload it, but I just don't see why it should be put there in the first place.About the "powered by". I personally don't mind and it's a good indicator of the popularity of IPB (just google for that phrase and see how many results you get). The cons what I can think of right now, is that 1) the page title gets too long when it could've been shorter. 2) It messes the content of the page title a bit with unneeded information for the user. 3) There could be more space for subforum names or thread names to be included. But, as I said, I'm not against it very much and rather keep it than do an extra skin edit (for each upgrade and skin). If it was an ACP option I might remove it though.
Antony Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 My real problem is that it's an edit in the source files, as opposed to a skin edit.
The Gamers Force Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 the powered by text can be removed by finding it in sources/action_public/boards.php you can even change it to what ever you want it will be in there as Find about line 191 $cp = " (Powered by Invision Power Board)"; Change to: $cp = "";Im fairily sure it was said before that its okay to do that.
ZainZ Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 What he's saying is that even if he REMOVES that from boards.php file, it'll come back after another upgrade. And then AGAIN he'll have to do it. So why not have a setting in ACP which when turned off, STAYS off even after an upgrade.
Rοb Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I agree about the "Powered by Invision Power Board" part, that should be easier to remove (i.e via the ACP if necc) but to be honest the favicon doesn't bother me at all since ive got the option to upload it or not :)

Then it stays around in my cache for ages.
Brandon C Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I fully agree on this idea that Antony that has put forth, both on the favicon in the download and the (Powered by Invision Power Board) text should be removed by default from the downloads. So, +1 to both of these ideas. :)
Strange_Will Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Put your OWN favicon :D no cache problems, no nothing, even if it's a blank ICO
Antony Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Put your OWN favicon :D no cache problems, no nothing, even if it's a blank ICOI just extract the files over the existing board from the zip archive, overwriting all existing files. Therefore, the IPB favicon overwrites my board favicon. Therefore, I have to remember to change the favicon with my own, and usually I only think about it after the upgrade is complete. :(

Tomi Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 I agree about the favicon, I find it rather pointless, but I don't mind the powered by line at all.
Millar Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 I think that they should replace the link to invision power on the 403 forbidden pages ( the index files in directories such as Sources, Cache, etc. ) to the boards index page.

Mark Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 There is also the IPS logo on nophoto.gif - why on earth is that there!?
Millar Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 There is also the IPS logo on nophoto.gif - why on earth is that there!?Matt must like the look of IPB's Logo. You can't blame them for sticking branding wherever they can, afterall, they are out to sell their product..
Mark Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 And they have, nobody is excavtly going to see the nophoto image or the favicon and think "I know! I'll buy IPB!". No, They think "why has this site got another companies logo?"
Millar Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 Well, wasn't it that One Lotus dude who designed IPB's Images/Skin anyway?
