Invision Power Connect Announced

The way I see it is why publicise products at the beginning of their development cycle when previously prematurely announced products haven't even been released?

All you will get is more of the "When will X be released?" topics that plague these boards almost everyday.

So, erm... where exactly can we discuss Brandon taking over the Gallery? All the product forums (including the Gallery) are divided into Suggestions and Ideas (not intended for product discussions), Customer Hints and Tips (nope, not here either), Customer to Customer Assistance (hmmm, it's not really assistance is it), Bug Reports (nah).

Well, that clears that up then

With all due respect, there isn't a lot to discuss. :) If you have concerns that you'd like to speak to us about, please contact us at customer.service@invisionpower.com or management@invisionpower.com - again, this is not the place to do it -- please respect the forum guidelines.

Heck, I'd just like to see something completed. Whatever happened to IP dynamic? Is it dead? Or is it on the 5 year development plan? ;)

IP.Dynamic is being worked on behind the scenes. More information will be posted within the next couple of weeks. I realize it seems like a slow development process, however, a product of this magnitude does take time to complete.

The primary purpose of announcing products in their infancy is to allow you the opportunity to provide your suggestions and feature ideas -- thus allowing us to mold the product to better suit your needs. :)

You guys should be in politics lol, wasted in the software business :)

I see the dilemna now, I'll stand down from the debate as I believe my concerns have been noted.

Thanks Lindy

All these products should not have been released prior to IPD,IMO. It makes no sense from either a marketing standpoint or a utilisation sandpoint.
99% of the internet sites have either an HTML layout or a CMS as their principal site with forums, galleries, support etc branching out from there. Having IPD as the main section makes more sense from a design standpoint and from a database standpoint. However, releasing these products with this timetable creates the image that the forum should be the center point of the site. Everyone with a business site knows that the forum is NOT the place for a first impression.
Introducing a new tool like IPC ,which is inevitably going to end up as a module or add-on to IPD, before IPD comes online makes little sense.Certainly the IPC will call from the client member database from IPD (and hopefully all products eventually call from the central database for member ID's etc.)
Inevitably this database will have to be the IPD db.
While this is certainly no slight on the new IPC, it does leave one very confused. Clearly IPS is heading towards the 'site in a box' idea, which is absolutely a fantastic strategy.
But to sell off the 'options' before having the car itself seems folley. Sell the car, then sell the options.
IPC without IPD is very incomplete.

i think you guys are coming up with too many things without first releasing previously announced things first. which is kind of annoying no offense. because we are all waiting for something to come out, and suddenly out pops something wich means that they arent putting all the work on one thing to make it perfect.

Who said that IPC will be released before IPD? I didn't see that anywhere in the announcement. The announcement merely stated that development is progressing on IPC.

As previously stated, different developers work on different products. Just because IPS as a company is also workong on product X doesn't mean they aren't working on product Y. :) Nearly every product available has it's own developer, so development of one product does not hinder/slow down/reduce the quality of any other product.

Oh yeah, and anyone with concerns about me working on gallery can PM me if you want. :P I can take an undue bashing if you feel I deserve it. :)

I actually think you will do a good job in general, Its just annoying the constant changing of developers, will you be the primary developer?

Who's gonna develop IPB then :S

Hello,

As .Will stated, I have taken over maintenance releases of both products. That means someone reports a bug, I go in, find it, fix it, and get everything read for the next build i.e. IPB 2.1.2.

Matt is still the primary developer of IPB. As it stands I am going to be working on maintenance releases of Gallery as well. I think a 2.1 or higher gallery release is a ways down the road, considering 2.0 was just released within the past month and we're still working on getting all the kinks ironed out. :)

Where does it say IP.D is dead ? As l understand it development is ongoing for a fairly complex product, am looking forward to this one (along with nexus). Power Connect sounds like it should be worth the wait as well :)

Invision Power Dynamic is very far from "dead". It's used on our website and development continues at a good pace. We don't say much about it because we'd rather wait until we have it virtually complete before we start marketing it heavily.
