1. So whose leg do I have to hump to get you to consider using member group settings as opposed to permissions? I feel that it would give more control to the admin over who can access it or not. Of course, using both would give even more control... :D

  2. For people wanting to archive copies of a conversation from boards without an archiving feature, if you're using FireFox, then try this extension:
    ScrapBook 1.3.6

Once installed, go to your messenger, right click on the folder you want to save the conversations from, go to "Capture Link As...", check all the options (including javascript) and set the links to be 1 deep.

When it starts, pause it and set the filter to:

    http://community.invisionpower.com/index.php?app=members&module=messaging&section=view&do=showConversation&topicID=

Then start it and it'll save all the conversations for you. If you have more than 1 page with of conversations, then you'll need to do the same thing but click on the page number and do the same thing.

    :)

  3. That mod is fine for a single conversation, but if you have hundreds of conversations in your inbox it's not terribly useful. There needs to be a way to export all your conversations so you can download them together.

    ..Al

  4. We'll see what happens in future, I'm hoping the way that tabs are plugged in might change in 3.1 or 3.1.1.

The permissions are per mask... if you go into your permissions and set it up for a group, there is a second page to your normal permissions. with permissions for that mask. The application page has a complete matrix.

I mean basing it on member group rather than permission group.
  5. Here's a suggestion. Allow the admin to alternatively put the member map link in the user panel (drop down menu associated with the name). The link could probably be set to go directly to the persons location (or prompt to add a location upon visiting), so it'd be more of a "Manage My Map" or something. Also perhaps placing something within the users CP. The idea would be to let the admin remove the link from the primary navigation bar, but still have it accessible in other ways.

Also, adding the member map 'permissions' within the member groups instead of being based on the permission matrix. Just a thought, as I can always make a new permission mask, just would be easier to let some groups have access and others not, even if they have the same permission sets.

  6. The dude wearing the Archie Griffin jersey?

Click the link and read my description of where. If you're seeing a dude, you're obviously looking somewhere else.

  7. Lol, you must be bored to find things like that :P

I was looking around DC and decided to look at the street view and came upon that. Purely a coincidence, but a nice view none the less.

  8. Mind you I can also see a fair percentage of people putting a fake location in the system - a few remote islands may suddenly get forum residents LOL

I'm gonna be using, "1600 Pennsylvania Ave, zip 20500" as my address. If anyone has any hate mail for me, send it there. Be sure to address it to Mr. President.

There's a nice view here... Just look for the red color in the center and you'll see it.
  9. This has been discussed many times. There are two post counts. One is a total count and the other is an 'active posts' count, meaning the number of posts that are still available by the member. Don't know why it was decided to give both but oh well.

If you want to ask for help on how to change it, it should be in the peer to peer support forum.

I've requested before that both counts be shown in the profile, but Rikki said he'd only give one (the true total). Perhaps another request (using this thread) might help change his mind..
    :D

  10. A suggestion for the reputation system : we could choose to prevent warned members from giving a reputation (for example, level-2 or level-3 members could not give a reputation).

This is very important, according to me : warned members are people that don't really respect the rules on the board. So preventing them from giving a rep, is a good way to be sure that the reputation system is used by "good" people.

Oooooh, good catch. Should be in the warn level setup, whether warned members may give points or not as well as a threshold.

Warned members may use the reputation system if active? "Always" "May give + points only" "Never"
Warning level to affect members at? [__] <-- put in how many points the person hits before taking action.

  11. Would like to see a necro bump feature.

Sometimes you have a user that likes to go back and comment on an old post.

Other users, not paying attention to the original date then comment.

In the ACP there would be a setting where you define the amount of time to pass before this shows up 30, 60, 90days etc.

Then in the thread, when a new post is made after the time designated in the ACP, a message will show between the last post and the most recent one "Necro Bump! There have been XX days between previous and next post."

Or you could just use that mod that closes old topics. :)

  12. 1. manage "search results"

    2. point system

    3. better method of posting images to forum post

    4. delete spams and bane spammer without going indo ACP

    1. I think they're working on it.

    2. No.

    3. Would be nice to be able to 'scroll' through images you have uploaded into the gallery while making a post.

    4. When you flag someone as a spammer, there is the ability to delete posts AND you can ban/suspend the member, both without going into the ACP. (Also, it's "ban" and "into" )

  13. You have to alter the database to do this, and it comes up how often, once in the lifetime of your site? Twice, maybe, when you decide you want to change something back? I think just noting which queries are needed for these are fine. If you want to create a page that does all of these queries, it just opens up a can of worms with people wanting something similar which will change the default values of things like groups, forums, topics, etc.

It's a suggestion thread inside of a feedback forum. Was tossing out the suggestion. :)

When reading that article, the right side covers up some of the text. Also, would be nice to know what the other alternatives are for a couple of the optins. "flash" for the flash uploader, what's the other option? Also for the editor, "rte" vs what? Would the other option be 'std'? Just noting that can leave someone wondering what the other choices are. Just like there is the "email, pm or none" mentioned for a couple of the options.

  14. Might be a better idea to have a check box when you sign up.

That way people know its there when they first join

    +1
I like that idea. ACP setting though, because then you can encourage it if you want to.

Show "Automatically subscribe to own topics" during registration?
    No (don't automatically subscribe)
    No (automatically subscribe)
    Yes (unchecked)
    Yes (checked)

Something like that, so the admin can decide default behavior and if it should be an option during registration.

  15. Doesn't he want it PER POST aswell?

So he can mark a post "Unreadable by usergroups: x, y, z" after it's been posted.

If anything, it should default to unreadable. So if the thread loads up with 10 replies and they are all helpful towards the final solution, they wouldn't be visible until set unreadable.

What they are after sounds like another site that I've been to, just can't remember the name of it right now. Used to be free and then it went paid and you can't see anything now unless you're a paid member. Even non helpful replies are hidden, with a message being to sign in to see the stuff.
