  1. I have done this now. I have managed to upgrade a new install using the old database so kept the posts, topics etc. We lose the CSS and PHP design that we had but it will be fine starting afresh, give me a good blank canvass to learn on.
  2. Thanks, I have managed to utilise the sidebar using for how we had it using the advertisements bit, along with some of the other features it has, same for just below the header too. I think we will probably upgrade to the commerce soon for that.
  3. I’ve had a look at them. Might have to buy the pages addon too to help. Been reading about the Subscriptions manager we used o have, guess thats another addon I need to look at buying now too, the commerce one. We had 2 extensions, Subscriptions Manager and Custom Sidebar Blocks and both appear to not be compatible with IPB4, just my luck, lol.
  4. Well, it picked up the database, converted it etc. Said it had done it but then got a 404 error when trying to go to the ACP. Tried to go to the actual site and got this: If I try to click on anything else or attempt to log in then I just get the 404: I am guessing the old site webspace and PHP has something to do with this. I got excited again thinking I had a work round but alas, another wall. EDIT: In fact disregard the above. I'M IN!!! It worked. I had a look at the pictures and realised it was pointing to /forum which didn't exist in this. So I changed the conf_global.php info to remove that and it loaded up. Now to check around. Thank you so much for your help so far. Hopefully this is fine, I can learn the PHP side and add skins and themes as I learn to make it look more like the original.
  5. I have another quick question to this. It appears to have picked up the database as it asked for my login credentials and accepted them, it isn't letting me add the -TESTINSTALL bit on the license key. It skips this section. Is this recorded in the database somewhere, where I can edit it and include the test install part? With me testing this on my registered test install domain I guess it is going to have a problem shortly.
  6. Thank you, I understand that now. I may give it a go and see. I can do a test install on another domain I have to see if it works, then if it does change the right domain to point at it. I've got a backup of it all so thats ok. I'll give it a go and see how I get on. If it works at least it is a solution if i cannot migrate the original one. Do you just run the upgrader by going to mysite.com/admin/upgrade I will use my test install domain to try this and see.
  7. I think I get what you mean. The database originally wasn't the issue. I cannot upgrade the forum on the current server as the forum is running PHP 5.4 and the IPB 4 software requires PHP7.1 or 7.1. I have tried to move the whole website, databases and contents onto the new server but it won't work therefore I am unable to get into the ACP on the new server to upgrade it that way. I suspect it is to do with the PHP coding and my new server as it uses apache and PHP5 is redacted in that version on it. So my thought was to do a fresh install of the forum software on the new server, then use my old databases and import the tables so I can retain all of our posts etc. Is this possible or won't the database tables for my current forum version 3.4, work with the new version without doing the upgrade. My priority is the information and members etc, I am not fussed about starting the design, PHP and look of the boards again if this way is doable as long as my members can still access it and the topics and posts are kept. I hope that helps explain a little better.
  8. HI, sorry I got lost on that. What do you mean upgrade the database? Can you do that on it's own without the webspace and ACP? I am happy doing it. I have a copy of the database on my new server.
  9. I am having problems moving my site and forum over to another server, posted in the server section. I have taken over the forum and site management as we had no-one else to do it. As a result the PHP side of it all, and the amount of files dotted around in PHP5.4 is nuts. I am wondering if it is possible to do a complete new install my server that we are moving this too, but still use all of the old database info. I ask this as the current install is IPB 3.4, I am unable to upgrade this on the current server due to the PHP issue and I don't yet have the knowledge to upgrade it. Is what I am thinking possible? We have a lot of posts and topics that we really don't want to lose.
  10. Hi, I am pretty new to all of this and am rapidly learning bits. I am attempting to move my Forum/website from one server to another. I have tried and failed at making a mirror test site. The current site runs IPB 3.4 and PHP 5.4/6 I think. The server I am moving it to is a Plesk Onyx one, I have changed the Conf_global.php file, copied the databases and webspace over etc I kept the database details the same for the new ones to limit changing of files as I thought this was the initial cause. I then changed the DNS settings of the original domain to point to this and it fails. I seem to get an error page here: At first the error said it was a mysql one and not ip board, I think that was firewall properties which have now been corrected. I have made a few changes as i have found out that PHP5 is redacted for Apache (I have no knowledge of this at all). I changed the PHP settings to 7.4 and managed to reduce my errors down. I had a few warnings but it should still show something with those right? The errors I get, and had the same errors before any changes to the PHP were made are these: Error 127.0.0.1 503 GET /forum/ HTTP/1.0 3.71 K Apache SSL/TLS access Error ************ 503 GET /forum/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=viewNewContent&search_app= forums&sid=ec75ad850c444f762b5542de0bb0ade3&change= 1&search_app_filters%5Bforums%5D%5BsearchInKey%5D&period= year&userMode&followedItemsOnly=1 HTTP/1.0 6.75 K Apache SSL/TLS access I apologise in advance if these seem things that I should know dealing with this but I have had no choice but to take this on. We lost our webmaster some years ago and need to shift this over to another account. No one else in the club knows how to do this so being a fast learner and some basic knowledge I thought I would try it. How hard can it be right? I am pulling my hair out at this as we really need to move it before the server account it sits on is closed. I am funding the current new server out of my own pocket as the club doesn't generate much money. If it did i would have just paid for someone to do it by now. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am willing to try anything to get this sorted. I don't know why i couldn't get the clone to work either, I suspect it will be down to the same issue.
  11. And this is my issue, lol. It does. I am starting to wonder if there is either another File, I have checked all the htaccess ones, or something inside the database tables that is causing me the issue. I am tempted to do a completely fresh install on my server to get the testlicense setup, then import the table data and see if anything changes. The problem with this is the current live site version is 3.4 and can’t be upgraded on the old server due to the PHP issue, so I am not sure how that will work doing it that way.
  12. The problem is I can't get to the clone ACP, it sends me to the live website. I've clearly got some serious investigation and learning to do to find these links. It doesn't help the site also runs on PHP5. 4 so I can't even do an upgrade, lol.
  13. A quick question, would there be links inside the database tables causing this issue?
  14. Jim, thanks again. I am guessing that is the case. I must be missing a file link somewhere so if i am stuck i will have a look at that link.
  15. Thank you, I have done this but it still isn't separate. When I make a test post on the live forum I can see it on the clone. This is where i am stuck as I don't want to go into the ACP and continue because of this. Thank you Jim, I am going to look at all of the htaccess files and see if i can see anything. Do you have an idea of what similar files to look at?
  16. Thank you for the reply. I have to use a different server to do it as the current one is being closed so I want to set it up using another URL first to test it. I have made a new database, but uploaded the tables of the live one to it as I want all of the contents in my test site. It is the URL paths that I think I am struggling with as it must be one that keeps sending it to the live site. I would like to retain this as a testinstall for the future too. This is where it is all new to me. Am I correct in saying that when I have this done, I should not see a post from my live site appear on my clone, unless I update the database of the clone? If this is correct them I understand how to update the license to testinstall, but can’t do it until I can prove this is the clone only. Just to clarify, I have the live site at olddomain.co.uk on one server, and the clone at newdomain.co.uk/test on another server. I have changed the conf.global.php in the newdomain.co.uk to point at the new database details and points to newdomain.co.uk/test I am guessing I have more links to change elsewhere to stop it going to the live site, therefore enabling me to go into a clone ACP and change the license.
  17. Hi guys, I posted in The peer to peer technical section then realised it may be the wrong area but can’t delete it. Basically, I have taken over the task of running the forum we have for our car club, as the person who helped set it up left our club a few years ago. We have to shift the whole site and forum over to a new server. I have a cloud server so I am trying to shift it to that. I have tried to follow some guides, and others posts people have made but keep hitting a wall. I have transferred the webspace contents to the new server. I have made new Databases and uploaded the contents of them to the new server. I have edited the conf.global.php file to reflect this. Now this is where I hit a wall. I know I can setup a test install but I am struggling how to do it. I need to keep the original site live during all of this. If I go to my new URL it still takes me to my live site, I know this as I am still getting new posts That are made on the live site, on the clone. Also the address in the bar changes to the live URL. The next steps say to login to the ACP but I don’t want to do that if I am being redirected to the live site. Or is this the case? Is there a way of ammending the license so I can add the -testinstall bit at the end for my clone site. Sorry if these are silly easy questions, but we all have to start somewhere right? I am pretty fast at picking things up and am eager to learn more so I know what I am doing going ahead. Thanks in advance.
  18. Hi guys, We lost our webmaster some time ago and I have taken this task over. I need to transfer the whole site/contents/databases etc onto a new server. I have another domain i am looking at using for the test site before I risk losing the main live one if it goes wrong. I know I can use the test license but i don't know how to update it so my new domain uses it. I have downloaded the webspace contents and uploaded them. I have also downloaded the databases and made new ones. I have edited the conf.global.php information but no matter what i do it still redirects to my main live site. Any help please is appreciated.
