  1. Thank you Marc for clarifying what you meant. I appreciate your perspective on this matter. Just to clarify, I did message you privately back in August of last year about the issue and where it originated from. At that time, my intention was to discreetly inform the staff, and you included the Marketplace Moderator @Daniel F, who then contacted the developer on my behalf and got the issue resolved, or it had been resolved and I just needed to update. As for making the information public, I felt it would be best to avoid targeting individuals or creating unnecessary drama. My reasoning was to ensure that everyone involved could focus on resolving the issue without any undue distractions. However, I do understand your point that sharing the information publicly could help others who may encounter the same issue. So, I'm open to discussing whether or not it would be appropriate to make the information public in a responsible manner. Thank you again for bringing up this important matter, and I hope this better clarifies my position.
  2. I'm not sure I understood this. No malicious intent was intended.
  3. I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I was accusing the staff of ignoring me. I didn't mean to imply that. What I said was meant as a light-hearted remark or a joke. It wasn't my intention to suggest that anyone was intentionally disregarding our concerns. To provide some context, we have a serious problem with harassers and stalkers on our site. Unfortunately, these issues can be difficult to deal with under our current Terms of Service, and many users rely on the blocking feature as a means of protecting themselves. It's concerning that some users have left our site because they feel unsafe due to the limitations of our blocking system. We need a robust and effective blocking feature to empower our users to feel safe online. Considering that this feature is a core part of IPS, it's astonishingly inadequate in its current state. It fails so miserably at its intended purpose that it's difficult to even refer to it as an "ignore" feature. Ignored posts still show up in the activity feed, or that people can still send private messages if they have one open renders the feature to near pointless-useless. Frankly, no amount of semantic acrobatics can convince me otherwise. The current state of this feature is unacceptable and it's a disgrace that a community-focused software lacks such a critical feature. It's simply not fit for purpose, and it's frustrating to see how little attention has been paid to it.
  4. I appreciate your effort to assist, but incorporating another application or plugin that needs maintenance between updates can become a tedious task, and become yet another application/plugin that should be a core feature. What surprises me is that a vital feature such as moderation, which was heralded to be enhanced, still lacks the necessary functionality when it comes to moderation at it's lowest level - user to user blocking. It's perplexing that the activity feeds still display the statuses of users who have been blocked, indicating that this feature hasn't been updated or taken into account during the ongoing updates. Or the fact that blocked users can still send you private messages if you have an already existing message open with them, which I have no explanation for what-so-ever. Perhaps I'm overlooking something, but there has been no response from the staff regarding this matter. The fact that there hasn't even been a simple acknowledgment that no changes will be made. Effectively, I kind of feel like we're being ignored... Which is ironic. The issue is being overlooked despite being one of the core features of the platform. It's a little frustrating to witness the lack of attention to this issue, especially when IPS has been emphasising the need for better moderation tools in their updates around the end of 2022.
  5. Yeah it's pretty well known at this point that the ignore/block system is all bark and no bite. It's one the main things I criticise this application for. A lot of people on my community say that when they block someone they don't want to see their content, full stop period. Unfortunately, people you've "Ignored" still show up in the activity feed for example and their content isn't even blocked there at all, at least in my testing a couple of versions back. It also doesn't stop them from sending private messages to you, if they already have an open private message with you. Which rather defeats the whole point. It also doesn't stop someone from just adding you to a conversation with them either. As I said. All bark - no bite. The most ineffective block/ignore system I've ever seen implemented, full stop period.
  6. Hi there, just wanted to give an update to this and respond to some things: Yeah, there was one application that was checking the Licence key. The new application author removed this routine when I brought it up with them (They aren't the original creators of that application, they took over it when the original person left). Low and behold: I've not had this issue since. So it was a rouge application; one that I won't name as the author has fixed it and I don't want to cast it in a bad light. ^ Absolutely correct. Some of these applications are critical to our site and it's set up. Just disabling one of them isn't an option, unless I have a pretty damn good reason. Disabling all of them, is unthinkable... Okay, I'm being overly dramatic here. But I'm talking from our user's perspective. Yeah if it was something I could do over say a weekend, I would have highly considered it. The fact is, is the problem is was so intermittent that the applications would have to be disabled for potentially two months at a time. Picture that one by one over 40+ applications/plugins that we use to customise our site at two months per application or plugin, you're looking at six and a half years of one application or plugin after another being offline, just to go through them all. By then IPS will hopefully be releasing IPS Version 7 or something, and/or the application I'm not testing will have updated which fixes the problem. I suppose this is one of the reasons that IPS say you should be careful about the amount of third-party applications/plugins you add to your site, especially with all the hook-in points that go with it which can often be many more times the amount of applications/plugins you have. It's more points of failure to account for and it forces people to be a little bit more creative when coming across issues like this. Which in my case I found it by: pulling all of the plugins/applications off my server and going through every single one of them, looking for specific things in Visual Studio Code for the IPS Licence call. I was able to find one - just one - application that even mentioned it and brought it up. Which I reported to the application author. This was old code left in by the previous author, apparently. It was also removed by the current author, and ever since - I've not had this issue. Not even once, where as before it happened every one or two months (and even then it was highly random). Anyway... TLDR; It was an application with a rouge bit of code calling on something it had no business calling on.
  7. I can completely understand this: This is a completely valid and reasonable explanation. Attributing it to greed is, in my opinion, just flagrantly ignorant, intellectually lazy, and quite honestly downright uncharitable towards IPS. And in before someone starts crying "FAN BOY!" or some other juvenile and asinine tripe: There are many valid criticisms; such as the utterly toothless blocking/ignoring system, as an example I can name off of the top of my head. This; ain't it chief. Theoretically a PHP version is possible, in a similar way that the site pushes notifications "live" without refreshing the page. I think ArrowChat and other chatbar things do it when a user is typing a message, for example and it's based on a heartbeat, which has an inactivity timer that reduces the checks/requests. However I doubt that's very performance efficient and if lots of people are looking at any given topic, could perhaps introduce quite a nasty spike, as far as I am aware. But it is possible. If you're that angry about it or if you are that keen on having this feature, one option could be to commission a standalone mod from someone who can find a more performant way of implementing it. This could potentially generate some income for the developer, but it would require a careful consideration of the performance implications and usage patterns to ensure that it does not cause any significant issues. The fact that it's not option already tells me that it's probably not worth doing, probably because the aforementioned problems I pointed out. But what would I know?
  8. Thank you very much and yes, I certainly can because I've been adding them manually into the site's blocklist manually. These were added; after I installed this app, so ones that got through: @tmmwj.net @klblogs.com @xegge.com @cnogs.com @nazyno.com @cartproz.com @usharer.com @nevyxus.com @fandua.com @ngopy.com @foundtoo.com @otanhome.com @chotunai.com @themesw.com @dewareff.com @irebah.com @covbase.com @lance7.com @pamaweb.com @harcity.com @hempyl.com @dmtubes.com @corylan.com @dicopto.com @lutota.com @nicoimg.com @xitudy.com @mailforspam.com Hope this was helpful. 🙂
  9. I'm not sure that this is even working anymore. We've had lots of registrations using disposable emails as confirmed by: https://verifymail.io/ I'm not sure what, if anything, that is actually blocking, unfortunately.
  10. Seems that my backlog has cleared, there are no outstanding tasks anymore and queue is no longer locked up.
  11. I am also having this issue since updating the application a few days ago. All new topics are posted twice for some reason.
  12. Exactly. I have done more testing and it seems that this is repeatable on LibreWolf and the TOR Browser. I suspect it's got something to do with the fact that there are strict controls enabled, surrounding HTML5 Canvas or something. T'was a browser issue all along.
  13. I could no longer edit my post to add: I was trying to be very careful with my wording here; I wasn't pointing the finger at Invision and in fact I didn't believe it was an Invision fault to begin with. I am looking at a conversation with other site owners who may have encountered this problem so I can provide meaningful tech support to my users. You know, so that I - and hopefully community leaders in a similar boat - can give better support and advice to their members who are potentially getting this problem. If I am pointing fingers, it would be at users browser: As far as I can tell this particular user is using a fork of Firefox called "LibreWolf" and I think I remember them having troubles with the TOR browser as well. I think there maybe a setting within that browser that is causing the issue. Does this help move the conversation away from "LOL-your-server-sucks" and "Uhmuhgerd-it's-Invisions-fault"? Because I really don't think it's either, to be honest.
  14. That's the thing though; I can upload this as an avatar too, so this isn't it. This is increasingly starting to sound like a problem with their computer setup, perhaps a browser or possibly an extension that's somehow interfering with it.
  15. Very good questions Makoto. No. Only when it's being used as an avatar. Attachment to post worked for the person in question. This is a fundamental thing I should have said from the offset and I can only apologise for not disclosing in the original post. I use GD. ImageMagick is greyed out.
  16. There seems to be some kind of corruption going on at the moment. As far as I can tell it's only affecting one person, maybe it's the image, or maybe it's something else, I don't know. I was wondering if anyone else had come across this; or might know what's going on. I'm not saying it's specifically an IPS bug, because I just straight up don't know. The original image she is trying to upload as her avatar is: However on the first attempt; it showed (And stored on the server) as this: On the second attempt it showed and was stored on the server as this: Kind of at a loss here. Any help?
  17. Yeah that fixed it. Moral of the story: Read the patch notes carefully and patch before complaining it doesn't work. xD Thanks guys!
  18. I haven't. The patch options I get are: I'll apply the patch and see if that fixes it, and I've created a temp account and updated my details with it.
  19. PHP 8.0.25; I can update these details it honestly would have been easier to create an IPSTech account like in past times but I suppose I can do that manually or something and update the details with that, right? Let me know if the first answered question explains what's going on, or if you still need access, I will go an sort that out on my end and reply here when it's done. Cheers Jim.
  20. I'm having a strange issue when trying to issue alerts from the Moderator Control Panel. I am trying to send to a group of usergroups, an anonymous alert and I keep getting an error: Error: Call to a member function getTimestamp() on int (0) #0 /home/SITE/public_html/applications/core/extensions/core/ModCp/Alerts.php(98): IPS\core\Alerts\_Alert::_createFromForm(Array, Object(IPS\core\Alerts\Alert)) #1 /home/SITE/public_html/applications/core/modules/front/modcp/modcp.php(114): IPS\core\extensions\core\ModCp\_Alerts->create() #2 /home/SITE/public_html/system/Dispatcher/Controller.php(118): IPS\core\modules\front\modcp\_modcp->manage() #3 /home/SITE/public_html/system/Dispatcher/Dispatcher.php(153): IPS\Dispatcher\_Controller->execute() #4 /home/SITE/public_html/index.php(13): IPS\_Dispatcher->run() #5 {main} with a stack trace of: #0 /home/SITE/public_html/init.php(1029): IPS\_Log::log('Error: Call to ...', 'uncaught_except...') #1 [internal function]: IPS\IPS::exceptionHandler(Object(Error)) #2 {main} The alert in question is trying to embed a video from YouTube. Is this a problem anyone else is having, or just me?
  21. I've noticed an impressively funny bug in the report center of my site. I wonder if other people are having this issue; or if it's unique to my site. I'm running IPS 4.7.4 on PHP 8.0.x Basically all the options say "Complete": I mean it's a good hint for my staff to get their butts in gear I suppose but I don't think it's intentional and it somewhat didn't do this on the previous version.
  22. This application seems somewhat broken on 4.7.3 @CodingJungle When someone registers, if it's set to automatically ban the alt account, for some reason that alt account is created like three or four times, with the same username and email address, which is very strange as normal IPS behaviour seems to prohibit this for obvious reasons. Also "Send to All" doesn't appear to be an option in the drop down box either. It's either "Disabled", "Ban" or "Send Message". Is this going to be updated or should we look at alternatives? Cheers.
  23. This can be setup from within the ACP (Administrator Control Panel), what @Adriano Faria showed you is correct. Simply: Within the system tab (The gears on the left hand side of the screen) Under "Settings" "Terms & Privacy Policy" There you will see "Site Guidelines", "Privacy Policy" and "Registration Terms & Rules". It's the last one of the three you want to fill out to make that appear on your registration form, as far as I am aware. You could also make the cookie bar appear at the bottom of the site too through this section of the ACP.
