  1. My board is www.templeofevil.com/forum, could you guys perhaps take a look and let me know if a similar look/function is available?

Specifically, the drop downs, and rotating banner, If you look under the community dropdown, check out the member list.

The rotating banner is just a piece of PHP code that is called from within the header template.

Both of those can be done fairly simply if you're fluent in site administration.

  2. Hi folks -

I too am thinking of moving over to IPB, however I do have questions.

I've done a lot of modification of my board (custom banner rotation page, various mods, drop down menus, etc) and am concerned that the functionality that more board members enjoy won't be able to be replicated. Would it be possible for someone to review my site and see if those things are possible under IPB?

    - I allow HTML in the signatures and posts, is this possible in IPB? I know phpBB does not allow it.

    - My current skin creator does not work on IPB, so I'd have to do an entire new one. How flexible is the skinning system? What kind of support is offered? I do have a concern regarding things being file based vs. database.

    - What kind of mods are available?

You should be able to view this: http://community.invisionpower.com/index.php?app=downloads - That should give you an idea of what's currently possible. There are also third-party sites that have more mods such as invisionize.com and invisionmodding.com.
You can allow HTML in posts (and I think signatures but I'm not 100% sure).
The skinning system is quite flexible. It actually is a database system but it's cached to files, so you get the best of both worlds. :) Support for custom skins is not offered by IPS but is quite easy to find by community members or paid skinners.

  3. +1 disenchanted VB license holder.

I'll read over as much as I can tomorrow and over the coming weeks, but have one question to start with - is there anything in your terms and conditions that guarantees that the 6 monthly support renewal will be offered for lifetime licenses? The sudden removal of that particular item from sale over at vb.com when we assumed it was part of "lifetime" is the one factor that has me actively looking at other options such as your fine product.

    Thanks for your time.

This is currently the case; you can renew your support at any time after letting it expire (even several years later). In the past, when license terms have changed, IPS have consistently allowed existing customers to keep their old licenses and license terms (such as when the lifetime license was discontinued for the current standard license, the existing lifetime customers kept their license terms and are still receiving support and upgrades for free).

  4. Even better! Nice idea Ian! But the only problem is, how does IPS gauge who actually has vBulletin?

Hmmm, there's too many modifications to list, here's a few off the top of my head:

    - vBAdvanced (I know I've already said it)

    - Cyb - PayPal Donate (i.e. PayPal integration for payments)

    - Affiliates Sidebar (i.e. Something with a list of affiliates that scrolls on the left/right side of the forum home)

    - vBShout (i.e. A Chatbox)

    - TCattd Image Resizer (i.e. A fancy image resizer)

    - vBExperience (i.e. A points system. You get 1 point per post and 10 points per thread, it adds up and produces a better gauge of the quality of users rather than just post count, or just reputation)

That's all I can think of right now...

    :)

    IP.Content
    http://community.invisionpower.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=2475 or IP.Subscriptions
http://community.invisionpower.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=2335 is the closest there is at the moment.
    IP.Shoutbox
    Built-in, can probably be modded
    http://community.invisionpower.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=2670

Any ideas how to substitute this:

    • bounced email handling - Not sure.
    • wiki - IP.Content
    • cyb advanced forum rules - Not sure.
    • GARS (reviews) - I'm pretty sure there's one but I can't find it right now.
    • Invitation system - Not sure.
    • reputation system - Integrated.
    • reputation comments in posts - http://community.invisionpower.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=2308
    • reputation moderation - Can be done through admin CP.
    • multiple account detection and handling - Not sure.
    • post report system - Integrated.
    • vb's infraction system - Integrated.
    • member help / support / ticket system - Under development.
    • real IP detection (see trough proxies) - Not possible afaik.
    • reciprocal links directory - Mentioned above.
    • verify email before registration - Integrated.
    • facebook like chat - Not possible.
    • full featured chat room - IP.Shoutbox
    • canned replies - Integrated.
    • vb's thread prefixes - Not possible currently.
    • donation system - Mentioned above.
    • vbexperience - Mentioned above.
  5. Just to clarify, the script will also work for Google and other search engines - When they next re-index your site they'll update to the new links, so you won't lose search engine ranking.

  6. To get into the peer-to-peer forums, you need to either have an active support contract or be listed as an alternate contact of someone who does. We can't give support here, you'll have to use the peer-to-peer forums.

If the owner of the license doesn't have an active support contract, you aren't allowed to get upgrades, and shouldn't be asking about them.

  7. There are quite a few custom skinners and site architects here, there are a few forums you could post in (on this site or others like www.invisionmodding.com, the others escape my memory right now) and get replies either wanting to talk more about it or recommending people who can do it.
